Non-political things that make you say...WTF?!?! (Welcome To Florida!) **NOT CV RELATED** NO TALKY!

I'm sure that's from a public service announcement warning what not to do. Sadly far too many kids in far too many parts of this world are exposed to unexploded ordinance, and when you're a kid this is what kids do .. and far too many lose limbs and lives doing it.

Not sure it isn't a WTF, but only because blade count and geometry are still classified aren't they? Last I knew, there was a reason ships in drydock were protected from public viewing and photos until their props were covered. Up until the last 10 years or so that I know of people were dying to protect submarine screw designs. (shrug) Oh well.. who needs a big gun these days I guess.

 

Not really. There are lots of public images of the Missouri and her screws while in dry dock. There were news reporters walking around everywhere during this dry docking. Google it. Everyone was taking pics and video. One crew even came in and laser scanned the whole thing for 3D modeling.
Now its a completely different story when we have an active duty ship and her crew in dry dock. No cameras or camera phones allowed. No talking about it to anybody outside the shipyard either.

 

Just because other people take pictures of "protected" things doesn't mean it's right. Public affairs goes out and takes picture of Air Force one a the time and puts them on the Internet, but if you take a picture of it on the flighline at andrews you'll have your camera confiscated.

What in saying is, just because other people do it doesn't make it right. You may have taken a specific angle of those props that nobody took before.

Sadly I wish that was the case. But his daughter is pretty much the back bone of that group now and has been for a while. Fred doesn't get out in public any more.

Actually most surface ships don't have that constraint. My last ship we were allow pics plus had a command photo in the dry dock. That and our props are adjustable. Subs on the other hand, you can't have cameras past the ECP to get on the pier.

 

Not here. We are subject to search. Lots of signs saying no cameras. People get fired all the time because of camera phones. Might be different for sailors tho.
And yeah, the props are adjustable.

Yes, for an active duty ship. Not for a decommissioned floating museum.

Pretty sure the blade count and geometry of a WWII BB and a modern nuke sub are two completely different things. At least I hope so, or all of our subs are fucked.
