Park pass for YELL also gets you into GRTE (Grand Teton - govt speak) as well, for a grand total of 2,000 pennies for a week. Also visit Bighorn Canyon NRA, between Lovell, WY and the Bighorn Mountains. Pretty neat place. Hit me up if you get over this way!

We were hoping to hit the upper portion of yellowstone this time. Last year we exited down through the Tetons and into Jackson but basically missed the whole northern side.

Lotsa buffalo, not bad of a drive, tight turns and not much road space. Be prepared to spend a LONGGGG time driving through, with all the traffic. We drove through in October, and there was no traffic. Watched Old Faithful erupt in pitchblack night haha. (of course, I've seen it go off in many different conditions).

Yeah, I know dude. YELL is overrated, for multiple reasons, but it is the first national park, and still awesome at that. Go gray and green! :D

For a wilderness trip to wyo I would rather go to the winds or to the Tetons. But I ha e never been to Yellowstone, just heard the busy-ness is outrageous.

I went at the end of July/early august last year and yes there were lots of people but not too bad. Better than just going to a walmart here actually. Not much wildlife though... The geysers and paint pots are pretty cool though. We heard all the animals are on the north end and we spent all of our time down on the south end.

Its all about timing. And going to the cool spots that arent as popular. Still a place i think everyone should see at least once.

Tetons are gonna be way more busy honesty. Jackson can be a NIGHTMARE.

Yea..honestly..they shoulda never brought them back. There was no need for them and IMO a reason as to why they were gone.

Sometimes i hate how humans have the impulse to try and fix everything and control everything..when..we really shouldn't..

    I mean..to an extent.

But the Wolves in Wy have honestly done way more harm then any good.

Its a hot topic no doubt! haha

I know where to find teh mooses :spy:

  Take that back! I love Yelly....

I avoid Yelly in July, that seems to be the most crowded, the rest of the time its not so bad. Plus I'm usually up and out of camp pretty early which helps to beat the crowds a little.

ID and MT have hunting seasons for them now too.

They claim that current population density in the park is at a healthy level. Do you see fewer elk, yes. They have had to change their habits to avoid predators and aren't as visible as they once were. The other major change is habitat. In recent memory everyone was accustomed to seeing hte elk in the meadows that were left behind after the fires of 88. Those meadows have mostly been reclaimed by the forest leaving less habitat for the elk and creating more tree cover, preventing visitors from seeing the elk from the roadways.

Nuffin...just noticed everyone was talking about Yellowstone in here

Hey, I simply think it is overrated when all the tourists are there! That's a fair point, I think you have to agree on that at some point, you mentioned that you avoid it in July!

I like Yellowstone, just not with all da people! And I wanna see the moose! Maybe we should meetup in Yellowstone? haha

I get free admission to ALL of the federal lands... cuz I'm deaf. That means YELL, USFS, everything!

Yeah! You going to show my wife and I around:D haha. All we saw last time was a lone bull elk and a lot of bison. Too bad the timing will be off. If I can make the Wyoming trip, we will be hitting up yellowstone while you are working on your first leg of that trip most likely.
