Gotta call to order. Took about two weeks but thats bc he didnt stock them. He ordered mine and an extra so the next guy doesnt have to wait, lol. Figures.

 

Gents, what do you think? Buy the 4runner or build my double cab almost exactly the same? I'll spend a lot more on the Tacoma but the 4runner will need the same amount of work my truck does; ie. new front frame out of 2x3x.188 box (like the BAMF Tacoma), 5.38's installed, smaller tires, lighter wheels, fenders trimmed (more of a bitch on a 4runner). I've got about 5k more to spend to get my truck swapped but I think I can sell my double cab for about what I spend on the 4runner. Parts wise, the 4runner makes sense but I think I'll like having my Tacoma built up more, even though I'll spend more to build it.

It's a nice looking 4runner. But the problem with buying a built truck is, you are not sure what you truely are getting. Maybe he has bigger issues that he isn't letting you know about. You built a sweet tacoma the first time, build a sweeter one again It also looks about 32" frame height...

 

Yeah the runner looks nice but TALL!!! and what's up with the CO's leaning out there should of been plenty of room to tuck them in it's almost like they didn't want to cut into the inner fenders.

 

Yeah i would of defiantly picked that up if i would of see it first i payed out the ass for the PSC.

 

Yea that's the problem with buying a built truck. 90% of the time it needs a bunch of work even though it might drive OK. Hell my last truck needed a clutch, a bunch of leaks fixed and the whole front end gone through but I still sold it because it drove down the highway nice. I'll likely keep on keepin' on with my double cab.

Speaking of the double cab, I have some parts rolling in Not pictured is my 7/8" Ruff Stuff heims for the panhard and upper link, Ruff Stuff 7/8 tie rod kit and Ruff Stuff 14 bolt spring perches, u bolts and u bolt plates. Hope to pick up a steering box and Johnny Joints for the lower links soon.

 

Have you looked into Ballistic joints? I went with those over the johnny joints. They don't have a snap ring it's a threaded ring so you can tighten when loose not rebuild and a Forged Chromoly design.

Almost $100 more for Ballistic joints. I guess it might be worth it. I saw this and thought it was a good deal.

Yeah $58.00 for the johnny joint and $70.00 for a ballistic I would go ballistic.

 

$73 for Ballistic but who's counting? Lol. You have any problems getting the joints you ordered? I've heard some horror stories of their business practices. A little scary buying parts from a company that is kinda shady.

 

Yeah they were pretty bad a wile back but all the stuff I have ordered in a last few months came in about 3 or 4 days. I'm thinking the defense contract they had is up or they are caught up. That's what was slowing them down they seem to be getting back on top of things now.

Its a little high for my taste but I could get used to it. I saw go for the runner, could always swap a cab on the frame but that would be a bitch.

 

Probably going to stick with the double cab. 4runners need a lot of work in the rear to fit 40's compared to a pickup. Plus they weigh more than Tacomas. Can't forget that green/tan is my least favorite color combination Toyota made, in my opinion Besides gold on tan haha

 

I like the green/tan so that's why I say 4Runner. That and I have soft spot for 4Runners.

 

Ya I have a soft spot for them too but my last Taco was an extra cab with a straight axle and I think it would be tough to get used to a shorter wheelbase.

 

Can anyone clarify the benefits of 21 vs 23 spline for crawlbox setups? Do you need an additional support for the crawlbox or will the tranny and tcase mounts be more than sufficient?
