How hard is it to reach up and turn them off and on when you need them ? Seems like a waste of money and just one more thing that can go wrong when dealing with the electrical system.

There are many things in the truck that are electrical. I don't partake in the "one more thing to go wrong" mentality with this as it is a very nice addition and Directed Electronics has been around for a very long time. They are a huge player in the automotive electronics arena, so I trust their hardware.

If I believed "one more thing to go wrong" I would get a carbureted vehicle with manual roll up windows, etc.

However, I do understand where you're coming from, I just don't subscribe to it in this instance. I have owned a BMW, Lexus and Audi and all of them had this feature and once you have it, you really get spoiled. It is a very convenient feature.

    Installation complete. 2013 Tacoma.

There is seriously very little risk with this install. Even if the unit failed to work and burned up, your lights will still continue to operate in the normal fashion. The way you install it, it runs in parallel with the stock setup. So if let's say you pull the fuse from the unit, your stock setup works normal. The only control this has is that when you tell your stock setup to be OFF, this can send an additional signal to say ON.

Now laying all that worry to the side. This works great. I pulled in to my garage where it was dark, wham it turned on. I backed out, and 30 seconds later it turned off. I can flip the additional switch that comes with it (mounted next to my fog switch area) and disable it completely so it behaves 100% stock, even if dark it will not turn the lights on/off or anything.

    I am satisfied.

I just ordered one from Amazon for $23. It seriously aggravates me that Toyota was too cheap to make this a standard feature in a $30k vehicle.

Just installed mine last weekend, took about an hour. Had the wipers connected too, but since disconnected. Even if you mist, or wash the window the lights come on for 30 seconds. I have a 10 second time delay relay I may try, but the night turn on was more important to me. If you need a wire guide let me know.

EDIT: Here's a link to the 05 wire diagram https://docs.google.com/file/d/1O8__UOZ_r2d6anCHOuUR3xTwESp2yo6u2heULeKxgreQNjtnR-_Kc3E5Dy7v7IFY9esQXflycU9UgGEI/edit?usp=sharing

For $25 and an hour of time it is worth adding. Missed it since my last two vehicles before my Taco had it from the factory.

I put in a time delay relay for the "wipers on lights on" feature, but it only works if the wipers are on low or high, intermittent does not work. If I ever get that to work i will post.
