Downshift from 6th to 1st in a fully loaded haul truck!!

This is what happens when a computer glitch dropped the transmission from 6th gear back to 1st whilst doing 60kph fully loaded with 230 tonnes of material.

Below is what remains of a Caterpillar C175-16 – the 85L capacity V16 engine from Caterpillars’ second biggest dump truck, the 793, which has a gross power output of 1976 kW (2650 hp).

Flat out it revs at around 2500 rpm. As big as they are, engines of this size don't like to over-rev at all; 100-200 rpm over will start to do damage.. God knows what it revved to when the glitch occurred… Maybe 3000-4000rpm.

There was no compression lock up, just BANG!

A new engine costs around $250k. With labour, shipping and collateral damage repairs, no change from $500K.

Lol.. Pics authorized are different than someone snapping one while in drydock. Also these ships can have multiple sets, and just because the original ship had a WWII screw doesn't mean someone can't learn a lot from a modern retrofit.

Agreed, subs are different. And it doesn't matter what you or I think. If it was a classified sub screw in drydock, I'm sure someone will let us know that a former TW member is in federal prison for taking a drydock pic and posting it on the net. :playball:

if that 1st gen had ATRAC, it woulda been out of that hole.
