Except back then Toyota cared enough to match the axles up well with the motor (3.4) Hence why 1st gens are better!

 

Not really... They did exactly what they did with the 2nd gens. Took the same two rearends they have been using since the late 70's and through it under there...

This is probably the same as you guys, but the only reason I argue 2nd gens are better is cuz I own one and because really neither gen is better. Each one has it's ups and downs. There are so many of those ups and downs between the two that is really is impossible to say one is better than the other. haha

Actually..I think their are more weak points in a 2nd gen..

And having been in both many times. I still like 1sts better. Just something about the small truck to me personally.

2nd gens aren't that much bigger than 1st gens. They just look bigger! And more plastic means less rust. We have metal only where metal is needed

Pssshhh!! I think you missed this discussion but we measured our rigs and Monte is wider than I am! haha Like I said 1st gens aren't that much smaller. I am a whole like 6" longer than Monte is all too and he is probably taller than me too.

And what extra plastic do we have? The bed? haha I've seen enough pics of people hauling shit and the beds can hold more weight than the suspension can handle anyway. haha Oh and we have a plastic fuel tank.

 

The same exact rear end used with the 22R. And we all know what a power monster that one was.

Amd actually on the rear end stuff. It is not the same rear end from the 70. The diff in a 70s truck is different from the 85-94 and 95-current is different as well plus there are several little oddities through out too as is custoimery of Toyota.

Either way. Stock for stock we aren't that much bigger I think it is just the way the looks play into it. The difference just isn't like people make it sound. I pulled up next to a stock 1st gen Tundra on Tuesday and he was just as big as I was easy! Same height as me and everything! I just had more clearance underneath that him.
