Installed Bilstein 5100s and Toytec AAL with Carrier Bearing Drop

I went to Krawltex today to have my lift installed which included 5100s and AAL with carrier bearing drop. I tried to have the 3 degree shims installed; however, the guys working on the truck confirmed they were uncomfortable with the clearance of the centering pin with the shim. I'm trying to get them to forward me the pics they took and they sent it to Toytec for confirmation of what they found. They said the hole in the middle of the shim was too big and I needed to find one that wasn't as big (they were complimentary though on the no slip/grip design of it).

To note, I can feel the slightest of vibes between 1-7mph and again between 18-27mph. Installer took a test drive with me and said he felt confident that the right fitting shims would correct the problem. Can anyone recommend some other shims?

I'm very happy with the look and will be even freakin' ecstatic once the vibe problem is corrected.

My driveway is on an incline, so it's not that really noticeable. I measured it to be only 1/8" higher in the back, so it does sit pretty level. That's all the pics I have for now. I will take pics of it on level ground tomorrow.

XD revolvers and Nitto TGs will be installed either later this week or next week (already ordered from 4WP and deposit placed). This thing is screaming for bigger tires.

Let me know what you all think and what kind of other shims can be put on there.

1 more thing, is it normal for my ucas to be at this angle (sloping down towards the tire)

 

looks great, will look better once you put new wheels on, first question. did you drive the truck without the cb drop. I havce a slight vibe below 5 mph and that is all, no cb drop. when i put the 3* shim it made it worse, toytec sells 2 1/4 shim.

 

No I didn't drive it without the cb drop. The installer (who is also the owner of krawltex) felt that the cb drop combined with the shims is a good thing to have. I'm going to leave it for now and hope I can find the right 3 degree shims. when you installed your shim, how much clearance did you have on the centering pin head?

krawltex felt that it was a potential safety issue and that's why the didn't want to install it. i trust their opinion. they have a pretty big offroad following.

 

Looking good man! Now about the UCA's, I was always told to go with the uni-ball ones so I bought some TC UCA's to go with my 3" lift. The stock ones just always looked a little off to me cause they were at such an angle! But I have also heard from others that the stock ones worked just fine.

 

you mean uni-ball uca's, there was enough room for the pin that i was not worried about it, the 3* mad my vibes go all the way to 20 mph instead of 5, i am going to put in the cb drop next week when i get it, i will post results when i get it. Remember that every truck is different, so sometimes nothing is needed and in my case it may be a combination of things.

How is the ride at 2.5?

 

I can definitely tell that it has stiffened up some, but I like it that way, feels like a truck (not a car). Also, I really have to make myself feel the vibes. They aren't that bad and under normal acceleration, barely noticeable. It's when I acclerate at a real slow rate that I can feel it ever so slightly.

 

got a pic of how your tc ucas look? i'd love to get some, but with new rims & tires on the way, money is ultra thin right now, lol...

 

here are my tc uca's with sway a way 2.5 coil overs.

 

drool... i may have to do this @ some point. yours is not at the angle mine is and that looks better.

for reference, this was taken on the passenger side with the skinny side of the shim pointing towards the front. not sure that you can see the centering pin head in the pics, it's barely visible, hence the safety issue. any comments?

 

hey guys I am looking to buy billy's for all 4 corners and a set of toytec aal for the rear. I would want to set the front ones at 2.5. And i am wondering if it would sit level?

 

should be pretty close, maybe a slight rake in the front but it would be close.

 

i just put that setup on mine two days ago and it sits pretty damn close to level

I have my billys set at 2.5 and i have a slight shudder at 5-10 mph and slight vibes at 40 mph. I hoped that installing the 3* shim from toytec and the carrier drop would help, but it hasn't.

 

looks good, i want to lift my truck, just not sure which way.. keep us updated w/how things are working out

 

thats what I get around 50-55mph if im expecting it, nothing major and it goes away.
thats with no carrier drop and a 2* steel shim. the hole was small and I got new(longer) centering pins, so it was part of the leaf pack now.Both leafs and shims are from Deaver.

 

I like the look. Taller is better, but not that tall. Just need bigger tires to finish it off.
