I work on a tow boat on the Mississippi River and travel up and down all the time. I get to see plenty of awesome sites for the water but I want to start making road trips in my truck. I work 28 days straight and I am off for 14 days.
I live in Florida so my traveling would start from there. Just looking for so e places to take the taco out and have some nice road trips and wheeling why I'm at it.

If you had 14 days where would you go and what would you do?

From Florida you have lots of options. You could drive up to Tennessee and hit the Great Smokey Mountains, or you could do something in N.C. or S.C.

I'm not much of a fan of the East coast, so to answer your questions...if I had 14 days off I would load up my truck and head up to Colorado to do some car camping, backpacking, fly fishing, kayaking, packrafting, and soaking in some backcountry hot springs.

Not a bad idea to go up to the mountains. I own a few hundred acres in Missouri so it wouldn't be bad to go check it out after I go to my property.

Sounds like a good idea. Also, I'm not one of those people who like company on road trips or camping/backpacking trips. That way I am only concerned about myself, I can do what I want....when I want....where I want...and how I want :D

WOW, you see the "Heartland" full time..NICE

Live in Florida, again ...spoiled by what few actually see....the PanHandle and the beauty of I-10 with not one BUT 3 National Forest along that route...Never mind the entire state..;)

Why not be adventurous and PLAN a Utah trip and not MOAB but 40 miles south...The Elephant Hill Trail is on my "Bucket list".....This area will bring you into what makes the country a BEAUTIFUL place to wheel..

Canyonlands has earned a GREAT Rep for being a little bit of everything...quitely hiding natures best BUT plan ahead, campsites do "Book out" a year in advance...

Whatever you do...just ENJOY IT :D....

Have you been through or stayed in any of the national forests? I'd like to go to yellow stone and check it out cause I've never been that far west.

I have been "spoiled" and traveled cross country 3 times and visited Ogden Utah when baby sister was stationed at Hill...We did 2 days at Wasatch Cache National Forest BUT with small kids...Fun and tiring at the same time...:)

Before marriage came TRAVEL ;), Greyhound pass and see the "heartland"..Laramie and Cheyenne Wyoming are EYE OPENERS for a Yankee fresh off NH snows....Denver to Las Vegas NEW MEXICO is another great RIDE...indian village instead of a casino...:p

The National State Parks are on my "LIST" and I want to do it with an RTT vehicle, not an RV.....
We have camped at the New England
Forest;Maine,Vermont and NH but our travels along the east coast have always included hotels;young kids are easier for long trips with parent crashing "rooms"..

If you have the TIME,go for it....You will ALWAYS have the memories, never mind the GREAT PIX.....My kids and grand kids enjoy my "Cross country pix" and continually ask "When can we do that ??"

Plenty of great offroad parks, state campgrounds, and National Parks if you were to follow the Appallachian Trail up to Maine then cross over the border into Nova Scotia and finish it camping on the Gulf of St Lawrence.....and I'm not talking about 95N.

Plan it right and maybe you could get some other members to hit up the wheeling spots or camping spots

    Tint and tonneau for now
Since yoy're already at the edge of one coast, get in the truck and just drive west for 5 or 6 days. Then turn around and come home. Gives you a day or two at the end to wrap up and get ready for your next shift on the river. Driving across this country is one of the best memories of my life. I'm looking forward to taking couple weeks in the next few years, packing my 2 boys in the truck and doing it again. You don't need a set destination, just go west. If you see something that catches your eye, stop. No plan, no schedule, other than making back home in time to get to work!

I'm looking forward to getting off the boat in this week. Taking an extra week off to go to my sister graduation from college. I hope to go to vortex springs on my way back from Jacksonville. I've been thinking that it would be cool to visit as many state parks and national parks as I could before I get a new truck.
