Oh , I see what has happened here

By savage treatment , I was referring to method of execution , not imprisonment

Again, the death penalty only serves as vengeance for the living. A lifetime of hard labor is a deterant to crime/terorism.

Correct...if one is evil enough to murder, he doesn't care if he is executed.

And those concerned with the cost of inceration, it's a required expense in a civilized society. And...don't think that one on death row for a few decades is cheap either.

Plus, those with a life sentence of hard labor...could actually benifit society to a degree. Bring back the chain gang.

We have removed all shame from prison. Most American prisons are a society within a society with little shame. There is real shame in a lifetime of hard labor.

Some do. It's part of their required "work force". The food from the farms goes to the kitchen. Another good thing is that they learn job skills with this program.

It's funny because I think most Americans would agree with this, and this is how it worked once upon a time. Aside from the making money part, I'm no sure if they did or not. But human rights advocates mainly put a stop to prisoner labor saying its inhumane, which is funny because they are there because they hurt or killed someone or many people. (speaking of violent criminals, murderers, rape, assault).

In Viet Nam in the 1960's if you killed or raped someone and were found guilty on Thurs. the next Sat noon. You were put to death with one bullet or if you were still alive they would walk up and shoot you in the head. There crime rate was VERY low.[IMG]

I could kill him and stand with a clear conscience before God, he murdered people.
In the Bible days people were stoned for fornication, isn't murder worse than fornication?

i like the idea of making people like this do hard labor and earn money to help victims families monitarily, but not let them reap a penny for themselves

X2 I'm not a fan of prisoners living even somewhat comfortable. Maybe victimless/whitecoller crimes can get some amenities, but hard core murderers doing life deserve to suffer IMHO.

I've always said, atleast before I had kids, if I somehow ended up homeless, I'd do something dumb, get myself thrown in jail, get some food, watch tv etc...

White collar crimes are not victimless..

I'm not sure what has been said before,
but something you have to consider for death penalty vs life in prison is what the victims want.. Especially for rape which doesn't have to do with this. But if the boston victims and families want him dead, where he wouldn't suffer for long (lets not get into the afterlife debate..), why shouldn't he suffer? (Life in prison, to think about what he did.)
