I was workin on my quad most of the day in the garage, finished up, and went to move the truck back in. When I went to turn the key I happened to be looking in the passangers side mirror. On start up I watched white smoke puff out. . It only smoked a second or 2 and smelt gassy. I came back to it later, started it up again and it did the same thing. So WTF???

It just got its first oil change last weekend at ~4500 miles

^ I wish this was a 420 joke but its not

Its condensation/water steaming off. Water is a byproduct of combustion. Most vehicles do this ;)

He lives in Arizona, not Washington State. My Tacoma has NEVER done that and I live in Super Wet Climate.

Who changed your oil? If it wasn't you, you might want to change your oil yourself. I'd say worth a few bucks to know it was done right.

Maybe they put Non-synth or the wrong oil in, no telling if you didn't actually change it yourself?

Not a non-chalant problem here, you better get that shit checked out FAST.

The dealer changed the oil. Hopefully I can take it early this week, going on a 700 mile road trip next weekend

make sure your oil is not over filled that could make it smoke, they also may not have reset the light causing it to flash.

As DoorDing stated earlier Water vapor is a byproduct of the Cat doing its job.

But if you are overly concerned take it to the dealer and get them to look at it. I have a feeling they are going to tell you the same thing. It doesn't matter if it is 90 degrees or not.

ok, just to throw an alternate side to this, though I don't think it to be your problem, white smoke would be a sign of water. they brought up water from combustion, the other thing would be water IN combustion. cracked head or head gasket, allowing coolant into the cylinder(s)

Toyota has so far had good luck with heads and gaskets on the 1gr, but people do occasionally make mistakes. if your coolant ever gets below the low line in the reservoir, you know what to tell the dealer

I think this nails my problem.

It went into the shop this moring. Maintenance required light was for the oil change. Then they basically outlined what you said was the smoke. I didnt drive it this weekend, just fired it up to move it around. So the engine never warmed up leaving a little extra to burn off the next time around. I guess I am just a concerned parent :p

If you have toyota care, why don't you get the free oil changes? And have them check it out. When i bought my 2012 i made them fix every little thing i didn't like about it. Which wasn't much.

Did it once? Don't worry. Does it often or all the time have it looked at.
