Stomp a bit , don't try to walk softly. They'll feel the vibrations and usually rattle early or just move.
Poke with a stick near logs, F' it , just don't get near the logs. They bite and don't stop up here, 2-9 strikes, I've seen the wounds.
During the heat of the day the shady areas you want to rest in are dangerous, they hide from the sun so as not to get too hot. Snake shot .44 or .38/.357 shells ftw.

I'd rather let em be, the one I see here in PNW seems meaner compared to some I seen elsewhere.
