Knock $500 of his best offer and make that your offer. They're still making alot of money on this truck and all automakers are struggling right now. They'll play ball to move a truck in this economy.

well it looks like I won't be getting a Tacoma after all. i still owe $25K on my Prius. Trade in value is 22K and they are only going to give me $16K, which is wholesale. I have had 23 cars and I have never been raped on a trade like this before. I guess the dealers will never learn. I guess it will take total bankruptcy and worse for dealers to treat their customers as they deserve. Ford is willing to work with me more. They are going to take $12K off of a $45K truck and give me a better trade amount.
I asked the toyota dealership why they always gloat about Toyotas resale value when my car is 1 year old and it has depreciated in value almost half of the sticker. They didn't say anything. I hate dealers. Honestly I hate them.

I got my 2009 TRD Sport Doublecab for $27,400 OTD. That included the 6% PA sales tax and title transfer.

I found that price listed on ebay by a dealer 30 miles from my house. I went and test drove it and he wrote it up to show me the price. I was going to sign but wanted to think about it. On my way home, we stopped at the local dealer who offers a Lifetime Powertrain Warranty and showed them the price we were offered. They barked for a couple hours but I said match it or I walk. They matched it, so I now have the lifetime powertrain warranty as well.

I felt bad for the other dealer. They were very honest and did not try any of the sales tricks my local dealer uses. Unfortunately for them, it was important for me to have local representation.

    That's my story...

That's only one dealer. Go check edmunds, kelly blue book, find out what the good value is on your prius and demand that. Sounds like they're trying to give you a good deal on the truck, making little, then rape you on the trade in. Common practice.

I was happy at 27500, someone just jumped in at 27250. I almost had him at 27000 too, haha. He suggested it, then backed off. Ah well.

I guess I will talk to him in the AM and see if that's a go. Sick deals goin on, just gotta push em.

I made the deal on the truck first at every dealer. After a price was reached I told them I had a trade. I took them Edmunds, KBB ect, ect, ect. They all said 'Well we don't go by those." I told them that the customers do and it is obvious why they would say that.

We just bought an 09 DC long bed, TRD sport, tow, back up camera, etc, etc. Thing's got stuff I didn't even know about. Got it for $28,200 OTD in Savannah GA. One person mentioned military so I'll go ahead and throw this out; if you are military or affiliated and are (or can be) a member of USAA then you would be wise to use their auto buying service. Eliminates all the BS hassel.

Just my 2 cents, but I wouldn't negotiate this way. If you want them to be straight forward and honest with you, tell them about your trade right away. Just figure out what 'difference' you want prior to walking into the dealership, and stick with that.

If you just spring your trade on them, you'll just piss them off and it will be much harder to work a deal.

Just some constructive feedback from a Nissan salesman! Yes, I am also buying a Tacoma!

Actually I told them in the very beginning even before we talked about what kind of Tacoma I wanted that I had a trade. Got off the phone with Ford just a while ago and they are willing to do better on the trade than Toyota. Haven't gotten the official word just yet.

45k off of a ford truck isn’t really that good of a deal considering they were knocking that much off of it when the economy was better. If you don’t like the trade in value why don’t you just sell it on your own.

i have been trying to sell on my own for 9 months now. I don't care what anyone says. Toyota's do not hold their value.

BBQBOY, I just sold my 05 Ford F150 Supercrew FX4 - really nice truck, had it lifted with nice tires, wheels and exhaust. But, the quality of the truck is not good. With only 50,xxxkms, the tranny was very clunky, a lifter was making a 'tic, tic' sound in the engine and I had to do the brakes front and back. On top of that, my drivers side window button stopped working and the window would not go up or down.

In my opinion, the F150 (if thats what you are looking at) looks really nice, but the quality is very poor. Things will start to go wrong a lot sooner then they would with an import vehicle.

I'd spend the little extra $$$ and get the Tacoma, I'm 100% sure you'll be happier.

When we were looking at a Jeep for the wife, I had two different dealers quote me 2 very different trade in values. They also quoted me very different prices on the new Jeep. In the end, it was the same from either dealer.

    Dealer A:
    New Jeep = $24,000
    Trade In = $4,000
    ---------------------
    Total cost = $20,000

    Dealer B:
    New Jeep = $28,000
    Trade In = $8,000
    ---------------------
    Total cost = $20,000

Unfortunately we bought the damn Jeep and it is the worst vehicle either of us have ever owned. I will NEVER own another Jeep, Dodge or Chrysler product. We have had nothing but problems with a Dakota, Grand Cherokee and PT Cruiser that exist in our family.

The Jeep dealer we chose told us they were going to take the wife's old Escape to the auction and that it wasn't worth much to them. They ended up giving us $5 for it and made it seem like we were getting a good deal. 2 months later we saw it on the lot for $12,000. The even called us to ask how the remote starter that I installed worked (even though they said they would rip that out because "they didn't install it"). DEALERS SUCK!!!

When I bought my Tacoma, I didn't even ask what they were giving me for my trade-in. I was only concerned with the "cost to upgrade".

You sir, got one hell of a deal. Congrats.

I'll post pics and my deal, and talk up the dealership, once I take posession. Getting a great deal, not as great as yours, but close.

not to many, love it the way it is

Damn! some sucker bought your $5 car for thousands.

I agree about the trade in, it should not have anything to do with the negotiated price of the new vehicle and should not even be mentioned until the final price has been decided on. then it is time to talk trade in or no trade in
