I hear you brother and you made the right choice. Never second guess that. I just had to do the same thing 2 years ago and, much like you, it would have been easier to wait until the suffering got bad to justify the decision to myself and make me feel better about it but I couldn't live with the thought that she suffered more because of me. We had been trying to treat a potential infection (lack of sleep and throwing up) but once we found out what it really was and knew there was no hope of her getting any better I made the difficult decision to do it before it got worse. Every day is a struggle to remind myself that it was indeed the right decision and saved my baby girl from suffering. I spent 8 years trying to protect her from anything and everything that could harm her (she was healthy as could be otherwise) so it was only right that I showed the courage of doing the right thing by her before it got bad. I miss her every day and wish it didn't have to end that way. Knowing her, I'm sure she greeted your buddy at the gates and is showing him all the best spots to lay in the sun and play in the fields now that their bodies that failed them are no longer in their way. RIP

It will be alright man, You did what was right and that pup probably had an amazing life all thanks to you. Death is a part of all living things. Its the hardest part but unfortunely it is a part and you should rest easy knowing he lived an amazing life with an amazing person. Dont be afraid to still talk about him and remember him as if he were your child because he was your child! Put up his picture in your home and remember him often!

I am truely sorry for your loss but dont worry you will be blessed with another great dog soon :)

    RainbowBridge

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

A stray had a litter of puppies in the parking lot outside of our shop. Bert was nearly dead and mostly hairless by the time a few of our guys unofficially adopted him. Eventually one of the guys a few doors down officially adopted him and got all his vaccinations, vet checks, etc and he's going to Pennsylvania whenever he transfers. Kind of a bummer since he was really the shop dog for all 3 shops but a good rescue story nonetheless.

Command didn't like having 5 pups running around especially after someone backed over one. Humane society (or whatever they have over here) picked the rest up. Parents still roam around the lot though so I'm sure it's just a matter of time before there are more.

Kudo's for the adopting family. I bet it cost him a small fortune to bring her health up to where it should be and the cost of all the vet bills. To bad no one could front the money to get mama fixed....
