Your lucky to have that southern retreat. I lived in Sarasota for a few years. Miss it but not year round. That is a great deal for skids. Wishin for a 2nd gen deal like that when i'm ready.

Well washed the truck, my daughter's car and pushed the dent out of the rear door, as well as adjusted the strike and the door gaps, cause they finally decided to pay her for the damage.

We were in Clermont for 8 years, just close enough to the "Mouse House" for the kids but enjoyed the quiet of the lakes and country being that short of a distance from Orlando..

My Dad enjoyed his retirement in Ft.Myers and this place is on the "cowboy" side of I-80,cattle,sand mines, agriculture & small towns :).

Very quiet but just a 20 minute ride to Downtown....definetely my retirement home.

Sharing the view from the back yard with my grand daughter...

I need someone with more experience than I for some troubleshooting help  One of the pulleys on my truck is making noise and I have no idea how to pin point which one it is. I looked into just replacing them all and it's a lot more than I want to spend. So, anyone have any tips or tricks on how to figure out which one's making noise? I tried releasing the tensioner and spinning each one by hand and checking them for play and none of them stuck out as being the culprit. The noise is RPM related and does not seem to change with the A/C on or off, does not seem to change with an increased electrical load and does not change when turning vs. straight. The noise sounds like a turbo  It makes a whistling noise like a turbo diesel spooled up, it's kind of amusing. Any ideas?

    Turbo, blower, or gear drive?

But seriously..not sure if it was a common thing but Linda's 96 needed the main pulley in the middle. What I would do to pinpoint it is use a stethoscope or a long piece of metal that you can place somewhere and hold up to your ear..that's the best way I would chase it down.

Is the noise consistent or just on and off? I had the AC clutch go on my Oldsmobile and it was on and off..that might help narrow it down.

I replaced the 3 idler pulleys . I was in the same boat didn't know which one was bad. I would just pop the belt off . Then just remove the pulleys one at a time . I think it was a 12 or14 mm socket . When you have it off you will be able to feel which one is junk.

    Here is the torque specs

Here's a write up if you need it .

I did exactly that earlier, I released the tension and tried spinning each one by hand and rattling each one by hand to see if there was any play. In all honesty, the No. 1 pulley was a bit of a biotch to get at so I might not have really gotten ahold of it well enough.

Is it commonly the idler pulleys that go first? I might just look into replacing the 3 idlers and the tensioner. I'm going to have my truck torn all to hell this summer, might as well add that to the list... So much for Toyota longevity :jerkoff:

Thanks for the torque specs, I was looking at one of those this morning but it didn't have the specs.

I couldn't really tell which one was bad until I had it off the truck and in my hands . Of course it was the last one I took off too. Mine started to sound like you described after going through a lot of mud one weekend. I changed all 3 and kept the 2 that felt good as spares.
I also found its easier to change them from underneath the truck rather then laying on the engine.
Iirc the bad one on mine was #2 near the ps pump .

It's an RPM related 'whoosh' type sound. Seriously sounds like the sucking from a large turbo. It's pretty consistant and does not seem to change when I change things on the truck (turning, higher electrical load, etc).

What did you use for replacements? I'm thinking about going through Rock Auto for the sealed pulleys that were referenced in the FJC thread you posted. I did see that it would probably be a lot easier from below but I was just trying to troubleshoot so I was doing everything laying over the radiator support (fun).

Hope everyone had a good time at the eat and greet. Since I couldn't go to my "car thing", the Mrs was nice enough to pick me up two cans of rustoleum bedliner while running errands:cool: Total cost to prep ~$16 + my time. I already had the wire wheel/ wire cup/ flap disc for the angle grinder, as well as scotch brite pads and mineral spirits and the self etching primer.

Anyways, after a little over 8hours total prep time it's about as shiney as it will get short of media/ sand blasting. For reference, the sliders that came with the bumper. This is what it looked like before prepping it:

    Prepped:

    2 coats self etching primer:

    Done:

I prepped the shit out of it, so hopefully the bedliner lasts. If not, i'll just rattle can it. Going to let it cure in the garage till friday since i won't have a chance to put it on until then anyways.

could be driving a POS GM... be lucky all you have to replace is pulleys. My grandfather has an 09 silverado 1500 with 50k miles, has already replaced the transmission...

My last GM was cheaper and easier to maintain to 80k miles than my Tacoma has been... It was a 2004 Chevy Silverado 1500. Sorry man but Toyota has not impressed me. I wouldn't call it a POS but it's been far from impressive.
