Could you attach it to the frame rail on the passenger side? Might take welding a hook or something to the frame to help hold it and some metal pipe clamps but that's the first location that comes to mind. Not sure if there's enough clearance there or not though but it'd be protected by the frame rail.

yea seems like that's the best area...

haven't really seen any pics of people doing that though..

maybe everyone just carries spares in the bed?

I think only the rearmost section of the main driveshaft is exposed to potential damage. I'd only carry a spare for that section myself. :notsure:

Should be short enough to fit across in your bed, in a tool box, or behind the bumper perhaps. Some guys mount it along the frame. IIRC thegame did that with his old rig.

i have a 1 piece now and my factory 2 piece as a spare, so i can't do that unfortunately

but i'm wondering if i split it up if it'll fit in my toolbox..or at least fit under the truck easier

^^ This is what I will be doing but the mounts are being built into the bedcage.

Bob the only way you're going to fit it is breaking the shaft into a couple sections but youll then be able to fit it into a tool box or even mounted to the exterior somewhere

What about taking it apart at the slip yoke rather than disassembling the u-joint? Granted, that means you need to plug the open end and clean and grease the male end but I've got to believe it would beat messing with u-joints on a trail.

split it apart at the slip yoke and try sliding it over top of the rock slider mounts next to the frame. If they will fit in there just fab up a tie srap to hold them in.

Well this thread wasn't super productive... I forgot to try fitting my driveshaft on my sliders this weekend. I don't really like the idea of splitting the driveshaft in two...

yea apparently no one has done such a thing hiding a spare shaft under their truck successfully

gotta get under there and throw it up and see where it wants to go..

gotta find a solution saturday really...that's my last mod day before moab..

could always throw it in the bed for the trip then figure it out in may..

I've wanted to just throw it in my bed but as one piece it only fits diagonally in the short bed and makes it tricky to fit other stuff back there with the toolbox and spare tire. Plus I have to remove my bed extender for it to fit too.

I'm getting my drive shaft re tubed with some thicker steel. Today I tried removing the bolts at the transfercase flange and they are mother fucking tight. Gonna have to pull the ATO skids to get better access to them and use some anti seize. So I decided I probably dont need to remove the whole shaft, and just removed the rear section from the diff flange to the slip yoke. What do you think about just having that section retubed and possibly get a spare of that section as well but leave everything else the same? should be fine right?

    Bumping an old thread.

What did you end up doing for storage @NYCO ? I currently have mine in two pieces in a 42” Plano case. The longer piece just fits perfectly into the case. i want to mount them under the bed and downsize my spares kit.

Thinking about mounting some large pvc pipes with a screw cap to the frame and putting the driveshafts in there or using some sort of exhaust or other type of clamp to hold it up there.

My frame is boxed with some tube crossbars. I’d likely attach it to the cross bars some how.
