I recently found out Toyota extended the warranty for frame rust on Tacoma's from 1995 to 2004. I took my truck for inspection and they found a hole in the frame my next stop is to take it to the dealer to confirm it needs replaced.

My question is for those of you familiar with this situation, I have read that you may get the frame replaced or in some cases Toyota buys it off of you for 150% blue book. Does anyone know if this is a choice or if they simply just tell you what they will do for you?

It's not a choice and I'm pretty sure the buy back was only for 2000 and older. Mine was an 01 and they didn't give me a choice but it is pretty nice to have done. You get all new springs, shocks, lower control arms, parking brake cable, etc so it's a good deal if you can get it. Plus it's a good time for any upgrades you might want done since everything has to come off and be put back together.

Ok thanks for the info, taking it in tomorrow to confirm it qualifies this helps as I won't have to worry about a second possibility.

This was only for vehicles sold in certain Northern states. For your 2004 they will replace the frame IF the VIN falls under the campaign AND if the frame was already inspected and treated. Unfortunately the time limit for the frame inspection and treatment has expired (10.31.10) So even if the VIN did fall under the campaign it would not be covered.

Took my truck in yesterday, they are going to do the frame replacement. The guy at the dealership told me the buy back was for 95-98 models because they couldn't get replacement frames for them. They said the frame will take about a month to come in and I think you had to have had your truck undercoated when they offered it. I bought my truck used in 09 and they did an undercoating then

That's great to hear, will definitely extend your truck's life. Just make sure you double check things after it's all finished, when I got mine back they had forgotten to tighten the exhaust bolts and my CEL came on because I had a massive exhaust leak.
