My Tacoma will not unlock from the outside on the driver's side. I have tried to spray penetrating oil in the lock but it did not work so i dont think it's rusted. I was wondering if this is common or if theres an easy way to fix it. It makes for embarrassing dating situations when I have to crawl across my seat to get in my truck. lol

i had the exact same problem on my 98, my window also wouldn't roll up on that door, i had to pull up and guide it. i also remember the repair estimate to be pretty high to fix the driver door lock so i just wore it and un locked my door everytime from the passenger side.

It sounds like the window came out of the track. You should be able to remove the door panel and fix it.

As far as the lock goes, the key won't turn? Or the key turns but nothing happens?

Give that penetrating oil some time to work... it also helps if you insert and remove the key repeatedly. It will work eventually. My '98 4Runner used to do the same thing.

It sounds like one of the internal rods may be jammed inside the door. Take you panel off and you will be able to tell.

I took the top panel of the door off and looked into the hole for the window...the mechanism is turning but the rod will not move. so i guess the rod is jammed. im not really sure how to fix that.

You are going to have to take the entire panel off. You can do the same to the pasengers side for a reference. Just remember the passenger side will be a mirror image of the driver side.
