Thanks guys for all the great info. I am waiting for the recall to be over and then I will be able to test drive to see if it is indeed something I can stand or not. till then Ill keep my taco stock.

I looked at the FJ before I bought my Taco. There were several reasons I didn't go with the FJ:

rear seat access for anyone other than a Hobbit was tough
    bad blind spots
    wasn't crazy about the interior
lack of hauling capacity (no bed)
really just didn't like the look of it

I'm very happy with my truck, but I can see why an FJ would make some people happy. Just not me.

The problems I have with the FJ are
1.) They don't come in manual anymore
2.) The top is not removable
For that reason, I'd go with a Wrangler or keep the Taco

Lol would you really even want an FJ Cruiser with a removable top? It would look like a peeled open baked potato going down the street.

I can't believe these three things are possible compared to a tacoma.

To the OP - I only posted in this thread because I just got back from hauling 300 lbs of dirt and 2 giant shrubs to the city compost dump. No way could I go without a truck as a homeowner. If the wife wanted an SUV, I'd point her at a 4Runner first but I wouldn't veto an FJ.

I was thinking of an FJ at one point but the interior, and blind spots did it for me. Plus I needed a bed for my summertime leisure.

Now if it came in THIS color....

We had a 10 FJ, liked it a lot, recently got a 13 FJ, like it just as much. Gas mileage is about 20, though that is my wife driving. The thing is a beast off road, you just feel secure at some serious angles. The engine is strong and when you have it in low, it feels like it could pull a house off the foundation. The interior has some flaws, sure, but it is meant to be an off road vehicle, not a soccer Mom car. We had an 01 Grand Cherokee Limited, and it was great inside, great off road too, but the FJ I like better.

Yeah, shoulder room is a bitch and I am only 6'1" on a good day, 200 pounds and I always felt cramped. I have never sat in the back, but Ma and Pa have and they had enough room. They are very old and had a hell of a time getting in though.

I always felt kind of strange 4-wheeling in leather, and actually the seats were too slippery when really getting after it in the hills and rocks. The FJ seats are better, by far. By the way, the Jeep owed me nothing at all, it was a beast, second GC we had, so those who say they are junk confuse me. Ours were great vehicles, and that 7 V-8 was a great engine. My nephew just took control of it yesterday and he already tore a boot off roading! LOL I never tore one in 8 years of off roading.

I really hate the blind spots, especially if you plan on driving anywhere except the salt flats. Also, I really like the ability to go 2wd and 4wd. I really like having both so I can be sideways when playing a bit. Maybe not your cup of tea but something to think about. Unless I just don't know about it I think your options are AWD or 2wd and never both.

AWD only on MT. Otherwise u can have both. The tacos make it such a pita to play anymore that I rarely do it.

    ^^ This.

In Canada we only have AWD or 4x4...no 2wd option up here. If you want a manual, you're stuck with AWD. If you want an auto, no AWD for joo.
