Alex, looks nice! No nomming and fapping together... bad idea

I'm really curious to see what you think of them after your first off road trip having come from 285's.

Like my case? You mean LCA bushings?

I love the look of 1st Gens with 235's! :jellydance:

Side note, I'm going to replace all the idler pulleys, the tensioner and the belt on my truck. Probably order a new carrier bearing while I'm at it. I know that only one of the pulleys is likely the culprit but if I'm going get in there and start tearing shit apart, I don't want to get it all back together just to have it start squeeking again next month.

Not yet, but I'm pretty sure it's an idler since the noise is RPM related and does not change when I turn the wheels (testing the power steering pump) or jack up the electrical load. I suppose it could be the crank or the water pump but it sounds like it's the top, driver's side idler (and it looks like it's wobbling).

I'm sure it is an idler or the tensioner cause they def dont last as lo ng as the other items.

That too. I figure if I'm going to replace one, the others can't be too far behind so it sucks to spend the money, but I'll keep the 'good' ones as spares, replace them all and get a new belt on there.

Sounds like a good idea. Does it come as a kit or a package? How much is the setup

I'm looking at buying Gates pulleys and a belt through Rock Auto. Everything is just under $200 but I'm rethinking the tensioner. Apparently you have to buy the whole assembly, not just the pulley. Doesn't sound like much but once again, Toyota in all their infinite wisdom make the tensioner assembly double as the mount for the alternator and the compressor... Seriously, did a fucking 5 year old design this setup?!?! If the tensioner isn't bad, I'm not sure I want to tear everything apart to get at it. It involves moving A/C lines which i'm sure have gotten brittle with age and could end up costing me a lot more money if I break or crack one. Horrible, horrible, horrible design and a big F-you to the asshat that design this setup. Probably the same dipshit that was responsible for designing the rear driveline and suspension

    /rant, sorry

A slew of pricey stuff my wife hates me for.
The part that usually breaks is the one we don't have any extras of. :annoyed:

After this you'll never have to replace an idler again.

Damn right! I likely will not own the truck long enough to require a second set of idlers :anonymous:

Gotta love it. When I left vw and ended up with honda I hated hated hated working on them. Everything was crazy design. You had to break loose the motor mount to change a belt and the water pump was inside and driven with the timing belt. So when and if you changed the t belt you should change pump just because where it was and also if it seized you would strip the belt and bend a valve.

Not unique, my Oldsmobile had the same stupid design with the tensioner. I found that out the hard way, plus the $800 water pump that's buried in the back of the engine.
