Or test it before you get on it. Any time, that's the problem with "new" people in the back country they think because they bought the gear they are safe. Back country is safe as long as you go with people who have half a brain. I plan on going up today to do some back country by forest lakes. Just gotta wait for the wife to get home.

preferably something taller then your roof line, from what I know it'll give better reception

I always say shorter. I was smacking a lot of trees when I had a 4' firestick, and now I went to a 2' and I cant tell any reception loss.

All depends on where you mount it as well.

I was actually referencing Loveland...still shaking my head over that one. Super experienced can still get you super killed.

I was too. And I doubt they were super experienced no matter what the news said about it. I'm sure it presented with a 10ft blown cornice and they still thought it was a good idea to be on the face. I'm up in Loveland a lot, and there are areas that you just don't do under the conditions no matter how great it might be if it does not break lose. I have been doing back country since I moved to Colorado, and it's 90% of what I do on a normal basis.

Actually there isnt ever a cornice where they were, that area is one of the only area's that socks in snow and above it is usually bare all the way to the summit because of the wind.

Thought someone on here said they were above in the race course? Either way I'm willing to bet that there was not a pit dug at the top and tested. Especially in spring time this is important. And with the snow fall and how much wind we were having It would be hard to say there was not a cornice at the top prior to it breaking lose.

I don't really watch the news because I think it is all crap so I didn't get a exact location. But never the less sucks they died for sure.

Where did you end up mounting yours. I'm not going to mount mine where I had my last one.

Yeah it was right at the big turn in loveland pass just up from the pickup point going towards the summit and abasin. They apparently parked at that big turn and hiked into the avalanche path which yes is just above and to the right of the loveland ski resort, those 4 runs which are usually ski racing. I agree you probably wouldnt even see a cornice at the top because the wind comes ripping into that valley.

Yes its horrible, especially that 5 people lost there lives in that slide. I would think they got caught hiking or skinning up the valley because why else would they have been in a group of 6 dropping into the slide zone. Unless they didnt follow the one at a time rule.

That's how my last was mounted it was good when you were close or the people were behind me. Sucked for transmitting ahead in a larger group though but my fire stick didn't go above my roof line much.

I was not able to go into most garages any way. My ski racks took a few hits so I would just stay out of them lol.

Nice! Im going to come up with a different mount for this project.. We shall see what I come up with.
