I did not get a USAA rebate (it was over or something, or not available in my area, last year it was $500 on 2012's around july so you might want to wait), but your best bet is to use their car buying service. It worked well for me, but I had to go through 6 dealerships before I found one that wasn't adding on pinstriping for $300 or tint for the same cost, or other BS like that. Just build it online and price it out.

Mine shows $23,091 national average paid for access cab I4 MT prerunner with sr5 package. From the histogram, looks like if you can pay 22,250 or so you are in a very good spot, but that includes ~$1600 in destination and regional charges, which may not apply. Truecar pricing (what USAA uses I guess) is also available through Costco.

That's a good deal. I just bought that exact truck with Nav and tint for 28,414 in Georgia, but I have the USAA advantage. Also I went in to work a deal on an SR5 got a screaming deal on that and said ok I will pay the 3k ish difference for the other one, which was the difference in options. They about crapped themselves but they gave it too me. I think I got a great deal. Now I rolled some negative equity from another car in so I actually paid more, but price of the truck was 28,414 OTD

MSRP is about 5-6% over invoice. I believe dealer holdback for Toyota is 2% where american cars are like 4%. Anything below these two combined is a great deal. The more under invoice you can move them, the better the deal.

I went ahead and pulled the trigger on a black dbl cab v6, 6 speed manual, 4x4, trd off road, tow package, short bed. 32,584 out the door. MSRP was 32728. (AZ tax of 6.6 sucks) I dont think I did to bad. Did I? Now I have to wait till Monday to pick it up.

What did you pay for the truck? Otd includes fees which vary greatly.

How realistic is it to pay $1000 below invoice?

After joining the forum I realized I could afford an upgrade or two from what I was previously looking for. Now instead of an access cab 4cyl, pre-runner, sr5. I am looking at the V6 access cab 6spd with TRD sport.

On Toyota.com the MSRP is $28,390 for Automatic (they don't have the option for MT)

On costco it says $27,740 MSRP (auto again) and $26,102 INVOICE

I know that MT is $600-700 cheaper too.

So what I am asking, is $1000 below invoice difficult?

I live in So Cal, and am willing to drive to find a good deal. I also have USAA through my father.

just got my 2013 reg. cab 2x4 with manual, as basic as it gets. For people interested in price here's break down: MSRP was under $20,000. Dealer fist offer was $18,500,. I checked consumer reports and true car and found that invoice price is around $17,300 but there's some dealer hold-backs that bring price down to $16,500. So I started negotiations from 16500 and worked to $17000, after looking around, back and forward between dealers i was able to get one for $17,000. Plus TAX $1020 and doc. fee of $220. Out the door price ended up $18,240. Dealer has 1.9% financing too.
I did not buy any extras like service agreement or vin etching($220).

On my list of cheapest trucks were three, 1st taco. 2nd chevy colorado with bad track record and dwindling supply because of redesign. 3rd Nissan Frontier with limited supply and $1000 more then taco. So here i'm, new owner of basic taco trying to get pointers on taco forum :)

It is definitely possible, you may need to play the dealer shuffle game - use one price from one to another. I was able to get $1300 under invoice for my 2013 Taco on Monday. If you can find a 2012, you should be able to easily get 1500 under invoice.

It took weeks to get it, but I finally picked up the exact Taco I was waiting for.
2013 Magnetic Gray Metallic Double Cab Longbed TRD-Sport. I love it!
MSRP was $30,174. Paid $30,000 OTD including 6% sales tax and tag. That's $28,000 for the dealer plus tax and tag.

Had I been a little more flexible in what I wanted, I think I could have gotten a similar in stock unit for a little less, but I was adamant about the longbed and the color. It was a tough combo to come by without a long distance dealer trade.

Alright went to the dealer yesterday, I didnt expect to spend a 4 hours there negotiating price. I want a RED Tacoma DBLB V6 TRD Sport Package (i dont care for $500 floor mats, $600 side steps, so on & so forth)
They say RED is difficult to find since they don't produce so many in Red nor Blue. So apparently they say there's 3-4 on a ship.
The truck isn't physically in their inventory & just use a NUMBER off another truck according to what I want. Here's the breakdown:
