Watching the Angels game tonight it struck me as funny that baseball managers wear a full uniform and hat.

Could you imagine Stan Van Gundy wearing a basketball jersey and shorts ?

How about Rex Ryan wearing pads and helmet on the sidelines ?

I found myself at a tavern once, in kind of a rundown area of an old river mill town, 30 miles from Cincinnati, using the same wooden phone booth that Pete Rose used to place some of his bets from.

Hockey coaches wear suits...eh Oz, ya hoser?

As for baseball,on the MLB level, it is tradition...they are part of the team...why they are managers and not "coaches"

    Lots to come
What else would they wear? I think it is what others have said....tradition and they are part of the team. Now what is funny is when a coach of a little league team wears a full uniform. There is a coach in our league that looks like a total goober.

bat boy wears a uniform...w/o his name on the back

funny, but the cliche' for a bat boy used to be: "some day that boy will have his name on his jersey"...and now almost every team has at least one set of uniforms w/o the players name on the jersey.

because they are on a professional MLB field...and many times in the field of play...and should dress appropriately, including cleats. and they do.
