What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

Those are off a 2nd gen TRD offroad Tacoma. They usually go anywhere from 200-250 usually. I picked up a set about a year ago for $100 with the TPMS and the set I have on my truck now I got for $200

Hm ok. They look a hell of a lot better than my stock wheels, that's for sure. I may give him a call and offer 200 and see what happens.

 

did u ever think of painted your wheels? I did mine and they came out great

 

I've thought about it. They are extremely pitted though. I don't really want to go through the trouble of sanding them completely down. They are in very bad condition. I've thought about just doing a light sanding and priming/painting and seeing how they look though.

 

mine were bad but i sanded them down really well, here is a pic of the results:

 

What did you do for the sanding process? I sell paint all day but it's for wood or fiberglass, so I don't really know the perfect process for metals.

 

first i washed the wheel, sanded it down with 220 grit, used paint thinner to clean the wheel after. then a white primer, but i believe gray would be better..depends. then I did 2 coats of black duplicolor wheel coating paint and 2 coats of the duplicolor wheel coating clear to give it the gloss black look

 

Yea I already like the cab way better.

And I think I will..at some point. But for now I need it to stay stock. For at least 3 years. My 96 will be the wheeling truck for now. Then ill probably swap it all over when I'm out of college and can afford a 3 car for a DD. then I'd SAC the 96 probably. And just swap everything over.

A new MAF sensor ($170) REALLY?!

I told the guy "They should supply the lube at that price."

He didn't hesitate to say "Or at least a reach around!"

pick up a MAF from rockauto... you can save about $70

Do you really think it's the MAF doing that? Have you already checked everything else that may be bad? The reason I ask is I've been getting crap mileage as well but I have no CEL or anything else that I know of wrong. Brand new plugs and wires last summer as well. Tires are up to normal pressure. I don't know what else could be wrong. Air filter and MAF are clean.

 

i know you should be throwing a code if it were the case, but in my old truck when my 02 sensor went out (the one being the CAT) my MPG's went to crap...

 

Yeah but how often do they fail anyways?
