Scratched dash on 3 day old truck

Hello all

I was on my way to a fire call and thru my light on the dash because I didn't mount it yet and low and behold I put three two inch scratches on my dash!!! Anyone who how to fix them? I am completely lost in how I am going to remove/lessen these.

I don't know. Sorry to hear about your new ride though. Within a month of owning my new Taco, I got a couple chips on the hood and one on the windshield. SUCKS, and I feel your pain.

At least the new car smell is still there.

Maybe a small dash mat over the scratches especially if you have to put that light there a lot? They are very thin & clingy without adhesive, you can find them in auto accessory shops or possibly wal mart. The size of a mouse pad.
Otherwise, have gotten rid of scratches on interior plastic very very carefully with a hair dryer. Be patient, heat it up and rub, it takes the edges off but you must be careful otherwise

I had scratches on my 2000 and the dealership said they had a guy that came in once a week to do stuff like that. In other words, they subbbed it out to some guy who would come in and make those kind of repairs. I never bothered to follow through because they were pretty minor.

Maybe try to get more information through that route?

 

Try using a blow dryer on high and a cotton rag or your thumb. Using the blow dryer, hold it about an inch away. Heat the scatch up for about 5-10 seconds, then work the scratch with your thumb and/or rag.

I did this on my door panel just below the window. It seems to work well on the deep scratches, I was able to significantly lessen it. The smaller ones seemed to disappear. Be patient though, it took me a good 30 minutes!

I was pretty careful at first as to not heat the plastic up too much. I didn't want it to melt. I'm not sure if this is a valid concern or not, but be careful. I'm not responsible for your dash if you melt it or make the scratch worse!

I was looking for just this thread. My TomTom fell and scratched my dash. I was surprised how easily it scratched. Post up success stories because I'm afraid I'll only make it worse. I'm hoping to find a gray marker. LOL.

 

Simple fix is to put a light coat of Vasoline over the scratch. Does a really good job of hiding the scratch.

 

if you had a interior light bar you wouldnt have this problem duh!
