Thoughts on rear bumper design?

Just finished this in sketch up, looking for input, comments, suggestions or what ever before i move to the next step.

impressive, few suggestions:
1) will the side protectors be flush with the fender or stick out a bit?
I would have it stick out a bit.
2) do not forget to have a mount for a light for your license plate... it's required for inspection.
3) for the tow hitch receiver, I did not see the hole for the lock pin.

Cool... question, are you going to weld it onto the frame or bolt on?
My CBI was originally bolt on... but after awhile... it started to sag... so to fix it... I had it welded.

It's a high clearance so you cut the bed sides, correct?

 

Looks somewhat similar to mine, minus the swing-out.

 

it will be bolt on i just haven't done the measurements for the brackets yet, it will also be high clearance so i do plan on cutting the bedsides, where should i put the mount for the tow hook chains? maybe like this? (i don't really like this idea)

 

Mine just looks like an oversized chain link welded to the bottom of the receiver part. Very simple, just a metal oval welded to the bottom.

 

I like this a lot better i think i will stick with it. Any other suggestions?

i love the led light over the plate! around here the number one reason cops pull you over is an inadequate light on the plate. good move i might just do that now thanx

any reason you didn't put the recovery points directly next to the frame mounting plates? Then you wouldn't need that small piece of square attaching them to the frame plates.

I'd also ditch that piece of flat stock attaching the hitch to the frame plates, it wont do much unless it's like 1/2". Instead have gussets on the back side of the hitch both in the vertical and horizontal directions. 1/4" should work for the gussets.

I put the recovery point were they are (inward of frame plates) was strictly for aesthetics i might consider changing it but i love the way it looks from the rear, i am open on other opinions here if you have some ideas.

i would like to ditch the flat stock now that you mention it. i should probably gusset the frame plate too, right? since i would be removing the flat stock?

 

thats awesome! however this will only be my 3rd major fab project so i am looking to keep it simple and use rectangle tube for the whole thing.

 

I measured before i made the model. however i made SUPER quick measurements, they are good start point but by no means 100 percent accurate, this is only my first draft once i am happy with the design i am going to start from scratch and use more precise measurements.

 

First off, The bumper looks awesome! Great job on that! Just got into welding myself for this reason mainly, hopefully I'll have my own designed and built bumpers soon!

Is that MIG welded?
