Anybody tried "Water Wetter"?

I recently learned about this chemical you can add to your coolant or use mixed with water alone if you are not concerned about freezing, called "Water Wetter" which is supposed to make your car engine run cooler. I know at least Redline makes it. Not sure if the name is a trade mark name they own or if others have similar chemicals with the same name.

Was just wondering if any body has tried it and what they tought about it.

 

I know that some of the sport bike folk use it in distilled water for track days (can't run anti freeze on many tracks). I have not heard anything bad about it.

 

Water Wetter is great in my motorcycle- Dropped normal operating temps about 6 degrees on average...It works best mixed with distilled water. It'd be expensive to load your cooling system with JUST WW...It's like 16 bucks for a bottle that is measured in ounces.

If you want a simple replacement- Check out Engine Ice- It's supposed to be a bit better than WW- but it's not legal at most race tracks so I don't run it in my bike.

All that being said-I don't know anything about the composition of the cooling journals and stuff in the Tacoma- but I think WW is not compatible with magnesium parts and maybe not good for aluminum too...but I can't remember. So hopefully someone else has better info about how it works in a Taco for ya!!

When I had my '69 Corvette and did the car show and cruise night thing a couple of years ago,some used Water Wetter.I rried it in my vette and never saw any difference.
Can't see why you would need it on a Tacoma.

 

Has anybody tried it in a Tacoma? I wonder if it allows engine to run a little bit cooler, it would make any difference in performance or operation?

 

I live in the HOT area and in my motorcycle days (Not long ago) I used Water Wetter in my bike. It did seem to cool better. Now bike cooling systems are still more air cooled the our trucks are so....
Now, I'll add some WW to my Taco once I change the coolant

But keep in mind I do not live where it get's below 30 degrees, my area is normally above 100 most days

You're playing with fire when you start altering the cooling properties of the coolant. My words of wisdom would tell everyone to let the coolant do its job and do not alter the cooling properties. It could void your warranty if something happens to your block of you blow a head gasket. Just my $.02

 

My experience with was the same as most, almost no difference in the engine temp, maybe 3 or 4 degrees. The only time I ran it was in my track bike because I had to due to track regulations. And if ever gets down to freezing temps in your area, the damage that can be done is catastrophic if you leave the water wetter in the block.

 

The thermostat is virtually never fully open, so you basically always have extra cooling capacity. If you were to change the heat transfer properties of the coolant, the thermostat would close down a bit more so the engine would run at the same temperature. From what I understand, water wetter is effective if you are generating more heat than the cooling system was designed to transfer (ie very heavily modified, and running full-throttle for extended periods).

 

Engine Ice is better.. its what all the guys at the track are using in there sportbikes.. i think it would be a waste in our tacomas.. i live in the desert and ive never had cooling issues even on the hottest days running the A/C full blast

 

Mass Taco got the right conclusion. The engine will run at the proper temperature because the thermostat will control that. The coolant will be a more efficient heat transfer agent. I ran a 40% mixture of antifreeze and a half bottle of WW in my 97 Taco. Immediately noticed better heat in the cab due to better heat transfer though the heater. 40% mixture was enough for freeze protection and the more water made for better heat transfer also. Water moves heat better than antifreeze.

 

Ive used it in my Monte Carlo SS and noticed a little bit of a temp drop . I also use it in my computer . Its water cooled and i noticed a few degrees difference in the CPU temp

 

I run that on my racebike.

You can'T have coolant on a racetrack so we use water + water wetter.

It keeps the engine cooler than coolant anyway
