Speakers crackle - blown i guess - what now

I have a car that can put 6x9s in the rear deack and some 6" in the front doors. WHen the radio is above a certain volume they sound awful. Im going to assume blown by previous owner. Not a big deal. A 2002 Neon.

Seeing is how Ive never purchsed audio equipment in this century Im clueless. Last time was 1996 i believe.

Its a beater car but I dont want crap. I also dont want the best cause thats expensive.

Can someone give me lead on medium cost brands? Is Alpine still one of the best or is it middle of the road? I went to the ENlgishtown swap meet and they have some peopel selling audio stuff, but im clueless.
On a side note, anyone ever put an iPad in a dash? I saw a video on youtube of one (its removable) and it looks great. Since you can get a 1st gen iPad cheap I migh tthink about it. After practicing fiberglass work for a while.

 

Blown or just crap in the first place is my guess.

Tell me, what are you using for a head unit? If it has the power rating on the front as well please post that, or the model # of it.

Alpine is a good maker yes, but if you are just running a stock radio without an amp you may be just fine with something like Sony.

Re the iPad, search it on here..I've seen someone post pics of it but can't remember the details for the life of me.

 

Both my Tacoma and this Neon have stock radios.

I'd say go with Sony then. The year doesn't matter in terms of the speaker per se, you just want to get the same size (ie 6x9 in your example). Alpine would sound good but if you're just using a stock radio you wouldn't get the most out of them, you'd be overpaying in that regard.

There is only one way to correctly answer your question. Go find speakers you can audition in your price range. Pick the ones that sound best to YOU. Ignore name brands. Ignore others opinions, reviews, and suggestions. Done.
