4 Bangin, Fuel Sippin, Full Tank Challenge!

Damm that's hell of a good tank. Wow. Must be nice having that kind if mpg. I'm gonna switch to my factory highway tires and see if it gets better for now on. I just got 308 on a tank but can't get close to 400 lol.

 

Not sure what you're running now for tires, but stock might be better. My next set will be for a highway rated tire. Question for you Miguel: is that your old ride in you tag line??

 

That's my truck I have now. A 2004 2.7 Tacoma. I did put some 31.10.5 .15 on my truck. BFg ats. So I can see my mpg dropping alittle. I'm gonna put back the stock highway tires and see how my mpg is and then I'll know what the difference is you know? I like the aggressive stance the tires give but I drive alot so many a good highway tire is the way to go you know.

Your tank is what, 18 gallons? Ya... I'd be looking for gas at 300 miles even at the MPG I get in my 5-lug.

Gassed up last night, Ultragauge showed 26.5 when I left work this afternoon.

Bazinga.

Grass fire in Glendora, took me an extra hour to make the commute home.
UG got as low as 22, but was back up to around 23.4 when I pulled into the driveway.

 

Very clean looking truck! I was thrown a little by the 2010 reference under your tag/information. I have a similar rig (minus the rims; I have steelies). I'd keep the BFGs for the winter months and run the highway tires the rest of the year. That way you get the benefit of the bite when it snows.

Looking for your rims off Craig's list if I can find a deal. Not a big fan of the steel rims, but my rig is a basic SR5 with no frills.

 

I agree. I have a very good feeling about this one. My UG calibration tends to underestimate actual mpg too.

 

Just went 600km on 54 litres...works out to 25.9mpgUS or 31.14imperial....way better mileage now compared to winter lol...the cold with winter tires and winter blend gas makes for terrible mileage...anyway cheers to summer coming

 

Even better than expected. 314.9 miles, 11.612 gallons, average 27.12 mpg. Not bad for not using even a single EOC. Just a measured foot and level demeanor, plus cruise on the flats. I wasn't sure a 4x4 could get up there.

Maybe these dayton timberline AT tires don't roll as bad as I thought. They have 40 psi so it's not ridiculous pressure.

I agree. I'm closer to 14 gallons by that mile-marker.

 

I'm on the way to the first read of MPG numbers with my newest Taco... and they are looking VERY good as well.

I'm guessing easy mid 20's, all 'round town stuff... easy shifts, empty cargo box and such. I'm sure the lack of winter mix fuel is contributing. The test bed is a 2012 2.7 liter Access cab w/ a 5 speed manual in 4x4 trim with just a few steps past 5000 miles on the clock.

Thus far it's every bit as good as my only other 4 cylinder, a 2001 Xtra cab, and likely will prove itself better.

 

Did a fillup today 361.4 miles - 14.92 gallons = 24.2 MPG. this fill was 100 miles of 3.5 mile short trips, rest was high speed interstate of 70-75 MPH. Overall not too shabby. Those short trips are killers.

 

If you want to amaze yourself but take a little more time, try 60 mph. You could see 27-28+ mpg. May not be worth it to you, but a one tank test will surprise you.

No getting around it, 3.5 mile trips are brutal.

 

Looks like it's settling into my driving habits. Last tank apparently wasn't a fluke. Today's fill: 356.1 miles, 13.523 gallons, 26.33 mpg. It was still an 1/8" above a quarter tank. I could get used to this.

 

Just purchased a used Tacoma with 27k miles on it. First full tank I used I filled up at 399.2 miles and it took 16.972 gallons being 23.52mpg. Not bad, but I felt like I babied the throttle pretty good.

 

Welcome to the mix here Charlie!! It's easy to go fast and burn fuel. The challenge is getting to the same place in about the same time using only some of the fuel. By planning a few minutes on the front end of your drive or the backend of the return commute, you can take a few MPHs off and add a few MPGs. Costs you just a little time to save fuel, money, and reduce emissions.

 

443 miles for 25.5mpg today!

 

Filled up today, 350.3 miles-14.02 gallons= 25.0 MPG. Mostly highway miles with a 1000 lb. payload of motorcycle, me and luggage, at 70 MPH average. rest was 3.5 mile trips back and forth to work.
