semi synthetic 76 lubricant

Hello, I have bought some 5w30 today for my tacoma
What do you think of the 76 lubricants brand?I've took the super synthetic blend motor oil it is a semi synthethic engine oil...
Big differences between 100%synthetic and half?

 

I ran synthetic blend in my 91' S10 for most of its life. It has 163k on it now and will rust out before it ever has an engine failure. As stated many times before it all comes down to routine maintenance. Many vehicles are running around for a long time with just dyno oil in them. You will be fine and your truck will run many miles and years on the synthetic blend. Look at the post above with the old lady and her Ford. Straight dyno oil is adequate for everyday driving. A blend will be even better.

As far as 76 (assume you mean Unocal 76) they have been around forever (Gulf oil). I have never heard anything bad about them, so I believe you have a quality product.

 

^I agree. Besides, you have to go with what you find locally because, like I said in your other thread, it's going to cost you an arm and a leg to ship a case of oil out to you.

My uncles owns a john deere dealership/service center and remembers the day when gulf/76 ruled his equipment haha

 

The 76 motor oils are part of the Conoco/Phillips empire. They also produce the Motorcraft oils for Ford, TropArtic for Phillips, and Kendall motor oils. All are reguarded as high quality lubricants at reasonable prices. The Motorcraft 5w-20 is very highly reguarded on a leading oil forum. Returns excellent UOA's for 5K runs. All of these oils are very similar, and will give excellent results. The modern blends on the market today are 20 to 30% syn and the rest a high quality conventional oils. Hope this helps.

 

Are you referring to the semi-syn, dino or fully syn? My Honda Pilot takes 5-20 and I'd be glad to pick some up if it gets such rave reviews.

 

It is the Motorcraft Syn Blend, it is $11.50 for a 5qt jug at Wal-Mart. A good value IMO. If I cant find BOGO or FAR deals, it would be my top choice in 5w-20 at a reasonable price.

 

Many thanks to all of you, but do I need to use only synthetic oil now for the next oil change?Or I can use anything? I don't plan to use mineral, it's just in case of...
Otherwise I trust 76 lubricant now because of you and because it is made in the USA, it costs me 7$ for 1 quart, I have bought 7quarts.
It was so hard to find the 5W30, most of the stores told me that I will not find and I will need to use the 5W50 100%synthetic for my hot region

 

You can swich back and forth at will. There are no negative effects by swiching between dyno-blend-synthetic. As far as the heavier oil for the hot climate I would consult your dealer or a knowledgable mechaninc. I believe several of the latter are represented on this board. What sayeth the experts?

 

I can't imagine it being much hotter than SC in the summer (low 90's July and August) and I still run 5W30. I forget the temp scale but it stays within spec.
