I am expecting a baby in November and have searched the car seat post but it seems like I still have answers. I cannot put the car seat in the middle seat because I am hardly 5 foot and was not planning on having children when i lifted it so im simply too short to get the car seat in and out of the middle seat. Also once again wasnt planning on a baby I cut the Car Seat safety latches out of the truck so i could fit a sub woofer box (priorities i know). I am stumped on which car seat will be the safest for behind the passenger seat and also small enough so the father can actually sit there. I do want the car seats that latch to a base so I dont have to take the baby in and out in case it's asleep. If someone can please help me!!! my only other option is selling it and buying a Tahoe.

    Too many to list now.
Well technically you cant put the carseat in the middle seat anyhow, at lest with the retention hooks. We've got a recaro upright now for ours, but we had a graco with a base that fit really well behind the seat. Are you sure they cut the latches? I just had a box built and they cut SOME hoops off, but the actual metal hoops that the carseat attach to are on the seat back itself. Havent been able to check and see if there's structure missing that makes them unusable yet.

I love the Re caro and the Sparco but its annoying cause for a newborn I want the handle so i can take the car seat in and out and those companies only make convertible ones so the baby will have to wait till its older to get a fancy one! Ohhh yah everything that was behind the seat is gone even the support bar for the back of the cab i know totally unsafe but my priorities had no children in mind for that

I had one of the graco baby seats with the base and it worked well. I had to scoot forward a bit but it wasn't too uncomfortable (I'm 6'). I would recommend if you had the latch system removed to see if some could be welded back in place or something. I have no idea if that would work though. Where the little latch symbols are on the back seats, just reach a finger through there to make sure if they are still there. You should be able to feel without reaching very deep. The latch is much more secure than a seatbelt, but the belt can still be used.

Bought one for a friends baby shower gift, it's perfect for behind either the driver or passenger seat. It had really good reviews on Amazon, I will post the info when I get off work.

I have an access cab, I realize you have a double, so might be different, but this info might help. I was shopping around for a car seat for my access cab this week. I ended up going to Buy Buy Baby and Babies R Us, and both stores let me try out the seats in my truck before purchasing.

I tested out almost all of the rear facing car seats in both stores, and I found the baby trend flex loc to be the smallest/lightest seat, the chico keyfit was the second smallest, and then graco snugride was a little bigger. All of the seats are pretty much similar in size and the front passenger seat in the access cab is pretty much useless regardless of what rear facing car seat I have, but since you have a double cab, you might be okay.

I have two carseats in my Tacoma - one behind the passenger and other behind the driver. I can't see any difference per safety-wise, although when it was the first child, I had it in the middle. If you are the primary driver and in the vehicle by yourself most of the time with your child, then I would put it behind the passenger seat with a mirror system set up so you can look in the mirror and see your baby. Otherwise, there is no difference... Oh, and I have a double cab too...

Also, when my daughter's car seat was facing backward, I had it behind the passenger (she will be two at the end of the month) and had my son behind my seat. I got one of those mirrors and put i on the handle of the carseat and positioned it so I could see it from the rearview. Also, we put it like that so when my wife was in the truck, she could see her much easier than having to turn all the away around. If it means anything, I had a graco system and am 6' and had no problems whatsoever with the carseat behind mine...

Honestly, it really doesn't matter safety-wise as long as the system is secured correctly. I must say that having kids has really changed my driving style - and as a bonus, my mpg's went up! Oh, and congrats!

You are welcome - I mis-typed that and meant to say that her seat was behind mine (the driver's)...Had to think for a minute cause it has been a little while...But no worries, there is plenty of room!

I have a 2007 Acess cab we use a Graco B-Safe with the base. The Base is mounted behind the passenger seat with the ""back seat" folded down. I am 5'10 and can fit in the front seat but it's way less than ideal for long trips I have to choose between sitting up very strieght or having my knees touch thre dash. The nice thing is I can actually see my daughter's face when I look back at stop lights. As far as the mounts being cut out I didn't do that but we use the seatbelt and mounts for double strength but I am confident that either would hold by iself in almost any impact. remember that a seatbelt is meant to hole a 200lbs of more adult so a 20 lbs and 10 lbs seat should not be a problem! The other thing to think about is once your kid outgrows the rear facing seat you'll have more room for that front seat passenger.

Just to clarify, is your car seat the britax b safe? I couldn't find the graco b safe. I'm trying to find a rear facing car seat for my access cab. Thanks for your help.
