The splines should be the same as long as its the same gear ratio. What is it? 32 spline?

Oh yeah! haha Is the axle even bent? It is possible to bend the housing with out bending the axle. I think that is all Jberry did when he bent his housing. If the guy continued to drive on the bent housing there could be damage to the 3rd though, but likely nothing critical unless the side gears and shift are blown up....

you guys make it seem like it's a lot of extra work...it's really not that bad. If I can do a little bit of driving and a bit of digging I can get a select-able locker for half the price of an arb and the same price as a lunch box. To me I want to select-able, so ill put in extra time to get that to happen.

I bet my auction truck sells for more than I want tomorrow, so my next plan of action is to go move on with finding out about this bent rear and third.

I'll bet he could get it to work with just some power and the switch. Hard to say though. If the locker runs on 12v he will be fine but if the ecu drops the voltage for it he might have to get really creative

Lol I think that your right on that one. And doesn't he have an auto? If he does then the lunchbox lockers drive better cause they maintain a bit of power to the wheels. I was driving my jeep at 75 through a Nebraskan rain storm and never lost traction once. Btw was in 4wd all the time and running BFG A/Ts. 45k of daily driven miles with multiple cross country trips am a FUCKED UP viscous coupler. Granted it drove better when I "converted" my jeep to 2wd but it drove fine with either.

He can bypass the ecu an run it directly off a switch. There is a write up on T4R about it cause 4Runner guys with 01-02 runners swap them in.

Lol I was wondering if that was going to show up here :p good review and explanation :)

you have to wire it right though, if you hook it up just to a battery and run current to it it can fuck it up.

and i got my answer on axle shafts  looks like I need a new one of these fuckers.

well fuck, looks like I got my answer. Need new axle shafts as well.

the 8.4 shaft is 28.25 and the 8" is 26.75

hey, im pretty excited to take on a project like this! The conflicting information and constant unknowns just worry me a tad haha. I hope to god it comes into fruition like im planning! This is the kind of shit that separates the "what kind of wheels for mah lift brah" people from the more serious off roaders. If someone says it can't shouldn't be done...keep trying! Unlike my bumper, im on a mission to prove you all wrong lol.

Thank god I have andy tho! If not id be up shit creek with a fucked up TRD axle.

Now crossing mah fingers the third is good.
