Hey Guys I just got my car dealership license and am looking to break into exporting tacomas to the islands. Every time i am out there i am surrounded by Tacos. I figured i would put out the feelers with you guys. How much interest is there in your area for stock tacos or what kind (DCLB, DCSB, etc)

Also might be able to write off business trips to hawaii

Gotta say its a pretty flooded market. Even Servco Toyota selles their Tacomas at MSRP so not any big mark up. Probably make more off of used cars. But yeah Tacomas are huge in the 808 state, i like to call em the state truck haha. I do also gotta note that your next big hurdle, besides the flooded market, would be that you may find it hard to get a ton of business in Hawaii if your not from here. Trust is a big thing here and most part time residents and visitors dont recieve much of it.

i second what Phil said. i see more double cabs than anything. and access more than single cabs. some are lifted but id say most are stock-ish

So I am in the market for some new tires for my lill pickup.
What size tires and rims and lift are y'all running. Did it kill you performance ie braking and MPG?

 

I wouldn't think 265/75/16 would hurt too bad.. Maybe 1-2 mpg at most with all terrains maybe a lil more with mud terrains..

I was thinking about picking up the fj silver wheels but not sure if the dealership still sells em?

 

Ask Jake. 265x75R16(70R17?) AT's will kill your mileage almost as bad as 285's

It's all about the weight and rolling resistance. The stock tires are something like 28 lbs.? And my 285/75R16 Duratrac's are ~60. Jake's 265 are about 54 lbs. And that is just the tire. You don't lose too much on the highway, I lost about 2mpg with my 285's, but my city driving went from 14 to 10. So my avg right now is 12mpg since I only drive around Kaneohe.

I would say if you are getting AT tires, don't worry about mileage. Only the Michelin's are going to get decent mileage, but it will still be less than stock.

O wow I thought stock bridgestones were 37lb! That's a big difference! Hey Chris I just got 18 mpg but mostly freeway

 

That's not bad considering our freeways average speed is like 30 mph if even with traffic

 

The two sizes I am thinking about are 255/85 16 or 235/85 16. I am not worried about the initial cost of the tire but I don't want it to totally kill my MPG. Do y'all think the weight difference between the brands in those sizes will make a big difference in fuel mileage? Just don't want to make the same mistake I did last time I got tires for my tundra BFG All Terrain TA Ko 305/65 18. Great tire but absolutely destroyed my gas mileage! That's why I am looking at the lbs of each tire so close

 

just from my personal experience, i got 265/70R17 dueler AT Revo IIs and i consistently get 23mpg highway(measured by scanguageII), and 18mpg combined(measured after each fillup) plus my girlfriend lives up aiea heights and i live up maunalani heights, so the hills hurt my mileage but i still get away with 17.7-18mpg

but then again, I do sometimes drive like a grandma and take my foot off the accelerator as much as a i can...

 

The lower friction on a 255/235 may be enough to offset the added weight? If it becomes a real problem in city driving, just regear

Ps, 7D is in! Now to sort trough a thousand menus to get it how I want it..

Well I know the BFG Rugged Fails on stock frontiers are right at 28-29 lbs. not too sure about Tacos

Maybe consider 265/75/16? Id imagine anything skinnier wouldn't do good in the sand with added weight of bumper, wheel/tire combo, ect?
