    the abs axle has a gear on it that tells the abs sensor what the wheel is doing, the different seal is set in about an inch to make room for that gear.

    I see. I'm not sure what to tell you. I imagine if the seal fits and seals it will work though, but hard to say.

    exactly, my only question is can i take the non abs seal (the one flush against the end of the housing) and put it in the abs axle in place of the seal that is set into the housing

    i think its going to come down machined depth in the axle housing, the ABS axle will more than likely be two inches further back than a non

    if that makes any sense

    It does. That was my question just wasn't sure how to word it. That is what I need to find out. If the housing itself is machined back

    looking at the first picture I see casted metal which tells me yes there is a difference in depth

    i think the guy who probably honestly knows this question the best is Jason(jberry) send him a PM, considering hes bent one of the axles before he can probably tell you

    You might not be able to. Depending on the machined surface. The surface where the axle seal sits for the non abs might not be machined in as far as the abs and the abs axles might not fit all the way in to non abs housings...the 3rds might be the same but the axle housings are probably different from abs to non.

    I was hesitant to say anything about the pics since one is on the leafs and one is linked. Probably a Taco and a 4runner so they might be an accurate comparison though.

    ill call it as I see it, and I see the two axles have the exact same machined surface, one being x.x inches deeper, you can even lightly the see the exact same casting and spacing behind the seal on the "ABS" axle


    based on that finding, no will not work with out abs axles,

    i bet however the gears could be pressed off and use the axle sans ABS gear and the seal would than protude further past on a non abs axle

    I guess another way of asking that is how much if that is pressed in seal and how much is machine housing

    Just tell them you have an elocker and all that. Even if you have to tell them you have a 98 taco. What i do. Just so i don't have to deal with that shit.

    Probably not. Axles look WAY different.

    I don't even think you could put an ABS shaft into a non abs housing..doesn't look like it would work..

    and nah. I think if he can make it work it'll be good. I dont' think unless he is 100% certain it'll work that he should get that particular E locker.

    But if he is patient more will pop up..

    Lunchbox locker! I think that is his best option next to buying an ARB. It just looks like too much could go wrong with this swap... in the end you may be $1000 deep into it just getting everything right.

    Yeah. The only way I see this working well at this point is if you can find a complete TRD rearend. Then throw Jerry's 4.56's in there.

    Sorry to rain on your parade Mark. We are just trying to save you from spending more in the long run for what is potentially a worse "upgrade".
