Hey guys newbie here and i got a leak on my oil pan of my 03 tacoma prerunner 3rz. Was hoping maybe for a couple of helpful tips.

How should I take off the old RTV, or i should say with what?

Should I spray some brake cleaner in the pan and clean it or should
I just clean the surface where the FIPG/ RTV will be going on?

Should there be absolutely no oil on the engine block where the oil
pan is going to be bolted to?

And does anyone know what pattern I should tighten the bolts
    and to what torque specs?

Also, it makes sense to clean the engine block surface with brake cleaner as well right?

clean everything. start with a razor blade get the bigger chunks first. then brake clean, and Scotch bright or wirewheel or wire brust. either way, clean. this whole time the block will be dripping. put ur new fipg on the pan, once completed, wipe the block once more with a brake clean soaked rag. then mount the pan. bolt it up quickly tighten evenly. let dry, then fill:D

Id let the truck sit for long as possible before I did the gasket the less oil dripping down onto your face the better.

Generally, you want to work your way around in a "star" pattern like you would a tire.
Start all of the bolts, finger-tighten, then start working the torque up incrementally in a star-pattern.

    On the inside?

It's not going to rust :D

I'd be worried about the remaining paint flaking off, but the filter will catch it and it won't be big or solid enough to hurt the pump.

Thanks for the info man:). Just wondering is there a specific torque spec for the bolts?

I'm sure there is, in the factory service manual.

Failing that, standard torque specs for that size fastener are likely going to be okay, but I'd try to confirm because standard spec might be too much for the aluminum case.

'Bama can probably give you the number... lacking that, personally, I'd go around 18 ft/lbs.
