Which helper springs

Alright, thanks! I'm trying to find out for sure that they work on the TSB leafs too before I pull the trigger. If they, I'm definitely buying a set.

 

They will work on pretty much any leaf spring for any vehicle, the tsb or non tsb won't matter one bit. I've had helpers on mine since sept, I put one set on behind the axle as they are intended and put another set on in front of the axle to help with axle hop. Short of buying a set of custom leaf springs these helpers are the best thing for the money put there.

 

Thanks for the info. I might buy 2 sets of them too. I don't think I'll need it though. Just looking for a little extra security for my road trip. Other than that, I rarely put much weight in my bed. I think one set will be plenty for me.

 

Installed the 550s today. Just went with one set for now, I really don't think I need 2.

 

Looks good, did it change the ride.

 

I don't really notice any difference. I didn't really tighten them down too much though, I might play with that a little. Will see how it does when I get chance to put some weight in it. The shudder/vibration at take off does seem to be reduced though.

 

Have a set of these waiting to be installed...did anyone go by the torque specs that are on the directions?

 

I think those are for the front. It says to tighten the back down according to how you want it.

 

Ohh guess I should read them again, lol.

 

Haha, yeah probably. #3 is where you tighten the front ones to the torque specs, #4 is tightening the back bolts and says to "adjust for height and load." That's how I read it anyway.

 

Finished installing a little while ago...don't know when ill have a load in the bed but I tightened them down pretty far and driving doesn't seem much stiffer so far

 

Pretty much my impression too. Don't notice them with an empty bed. Hopefully they do the job with weight in it though.

 

So I just went out and was bouncing in the truck bed and there is a clunk and squeak now after the 550 install...but I can't see anything rubbing or making contact under the truck...anyone else have this?

 

Nope, mine sound pretty solid. Just went out and bounced it bit. Also haven't heard them make any noise while driving around either.

I did, but i'm not comfortable loosening up my leafs to install that. If I think I need more, i'll add another set of 550s.

 

the squeak could be from the contact point between the helper and the main leaf. I didn't hear anything when I first put mine on but now a year later I can hear a high pitched "squeak" over certain bumps. I could solve it by taking things apart and applying some teflon tape or similar but it doesn't bother me enough.

The clunk could maybe be the springs not tight enough? I don't remember how tight I made the front but I cranked them down pretty good, and the rear I tightened down until I had about 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch of thread after the nut.

 

i tightened them down pretty far...ill check them again in a few days and see if i find anything that's causing it
