Yeah I rode my DR home a few times (90 miles) and it sucked. And that was on a big 650. I also rode it 400 miles home when I bought it which sucked even more. Dual sports in general are not fun on the freeway, just the way it is.

well there the bigger DS bikes probably considered more like adventure bikes like the vstrom, the klr, GS, ktm adventure bikes.

check those out(theres more). more comfy if you know your going to do more highway.

still good for minor trails. nothing too technical though.

Farthest I would ride back in the day was out to the Lake, about 35 miles, and I would just do about 55 and enjoy the scenery. I could easily throttle it up to 80 for spurts (when my buddy tried to pass me in his Ranger) but it's just not as relaxing to be at full throttle hoping a cross wind doesn't pick up.

Great bike anywhere else though, especially in a crammed lot or street. I used to block traffic at my old high school and let my buddies out until the school cop would come out and ask me not to, then skip the entire traffic jam on the way out by just riding the ditches next to the road haha the good 'ol days

That's exactly what I've been reading also. I can't believe BMW hasn't recalled their forks, that's such a horrible failure point! I told the guy I wouldn't trade for his GS just for that reason alone.

I've sort of narrowed my search to a 400cc or higher supermoto or the DR650 or KLR650. There are others I'd consider also, but ideally that's what I'm looking for. The XR's are too tall for me and I don't want to go down to a 250. I know some 250's will still hold highway speed but, after coming from a 750cc sport bike, a 250 would just seem like a moped and I want something with some ummf

Pugga, just saw this on the other forum I frequent. Sick deal, if you're looking to lower a DRZ400, I'd snag this. If you go a different direction, can always resell.

    http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=874013

That fact it comes with the extra kickstand is awesome. Seen a lot of bikes fall over b/c the stand was too tall after lowering. Also seen a lot of KTMs without stands :D, but that's another story.

Damn, that is a good deal! If I knew what I was going to end up with, I'd jump on this. I had to sign up for ADV rider to see the link  I've been reading a lot of their threads anyways since I've turned my attention to dual sports. There seems to be a LOT of good information on that site.

I had one of those and it sucked. Didn't work for shiz. Same with some of my buddies. Yet, I've seen others that were working great. Could of been user error, cheap model, who knows. I know I'll never get one, but if you have one, it's worth a shot.

Get brake rotor locks Scott. If the end up breaking the rotors trying to steal it they're gonna crash trying to get away. And you need some tie down schooling. That looks like a managerie of shit

Here's the plan to get my 2006 XT225 up and running again:

    Stage 1:
    New battery
    42.5 pilot jet
    130 main jet
Idle jet screw 2.5 turns out
Shim jet needle with 1mm washer
    Adjust air screw
    UNI air filter
    Flush fluids
    Clean carb
    Grease chain

    Stage2:
    Front sprocket 16t
    Wider foot pegs
    Hand guards
    Rear rack
    Trim front fender 4”
    Handlebars or spacer

Stage 3: (Not definite, still need to choose tires )
Rear 18x2.15” wheel laced to front hub
    130/80x18 rear (26.19”x5.12”)
    110/90x18 front (25.80”x4.33”)

Any suggestions are welcome and appreciated!

You don't need that strap across the seat. If the suspension compresses at all that strap gets slack in it. Just strap the front down with the bars then get a shorter strap and run it over the swing arm right in front of the axle. That will hold the rear tire down in. And you're done! No need for all that other junk.
