So um,.. What's stopping us from having the Tacomaworld desert shoot and meet?

 

For me... the crazy heat that is developing out there already. Camped last week and it was 97 at night.

Oh the only thing is about desert shooting is LA city... There being dicks about it...

 

If I'm going to shoot 30cal bolt and roll my own it's going to be .260WIN or 6.5mm Creedmoor. The .308 was an awesome round back in the day but when you get into long range competitions you'll quickly find that few competitors run it and those that do rarely place within the top ten and likely would be top 5 with one of those two rounds and the same performance.

 

I may or may not be interested in hosting an open range day out near the Dove Springs BLM area (along Highway 14, north of Mojave) on a Sunday morning.

 

Better shoot that beast from the hip with the pistol grip. I busted my lip with a 20 ga trying to aim down the sights...

And be prepared for a sore wrist.

Went through 75 rds of 12ga shooting it in a firm pistol/sbr stance, right inside of thumb forefinger grip got a lil tender. Best in home defense weapon ever. Dead Nuts consistent close range.

How is the .243 round??? I'm curious too know.... Lol isn't the .308 a pretty flat shooting round... ???

 

.243 is also a fantastic round.

Without getting overly technically in a 'show off yer guns' thread the ballistics of those two rounds are substantially better than the .308WIN. They shoot flatter at pretty much any distance and buck the wind better as well. This is especially true when you're dealing with cross winds and mixed winds of changing values in someplace with swirling winds like the Whittington Center in Raton, NM which is notorious for testing even the best of marksman. The top ten generally will be about 7/10 .260 and 3/10 6.5 and if anyone shooting .308 breaks into the top 15 it's noteworthy. I mean, keep in mind how long ago the .308WIN round was developed versus how advancements have been made on caliber technology even in the last decade. All these new SAAMI rounds are the result. If what you want is a 30cal rifle you can have an easier time walking into any gun store and buying ammo for then stick with .308WIN. If you are loading your own and want to have the best platform with which to test then go with one of the other two I listed. Components are components so if you're loading your own and don't care about having lots of off-the-shelf choices that's what I would suggest.
