Don't see why not. Should only take 30 minutes. Sign up on the meet list. If anything, I can borrow Cloudy's meter and we can go do it on our own.

Hello everyone . I have a question anyone know if I can put bigger rims and tires on my 2000 tacoma. I'm looking at a set of 16" or even 17" on Craigslist . Will it mess up any gears or engine performance . Thanks for your help.

you just need to have the right back spacing for the rims

im not sure whats best for a first gen, but most people go for a wheel that is 6 lugs on a 5.5 bolt circle with at least 4.5" backspacing. maybe the guys that drive first gens can chime in.

Do you have a lift? what size tire are you wanting to run on your new wheels?

this thread will help you better understand back spacing and offset for choosing a new set of wheels!

for backspace, measure the backside of the lug mount to the backside of the rim.

You want 16" dia. or larger, 6 on 5.5 lug pattern, no more than 4.5" backspace and at least a 7" wide. The width will depend on the allowable size tire.

In the past, I've run 265/75 on the stock rims, 4.5" BS and 7" width. For 285/75 I'm running 4" BS and 8" width. Anything different I don't have direct experience.

    Soon...
I'm running 15"x8" wheels with 3.75" backspacing running 33x12.5R15s for years with my stock 4.10 gear ratio and 4 banger, until just recent when I regeared to 4.88s.

I'll be running a 17"x9" wheel with the same backspacing and 35" tires, soon I hope.

It all boils down to the tire size you want to run then go from there.

So I've been looking at new leaf springs, as mine have gone all frowny & stuff. I don't want to lift my truck much, since I use it to haul band gear & shooting equipment & ammo, and I'm not getting any younger. I found these at Wheelers:
The 5-leaf springs, giving around 1 1/2" of lift. I have a high shell, so I might get about an inch of lift using these. They offer a matching front spring as well, and shocks to go with it all.

What do you all think? Will I need to extend my rear diff breather, brake lines, proportioning linkage, etc. if I go this route? Is Wheelers a reputable shop? Is this a reliable path to go down? Are there better solutions without going to a 2" or 3" lift (I really don't want to lift it that much). All input is appreciated.

Wheeler's is good people. I've dealt with Dan before and was very helpful. Call them up and tell them what you want.

You know my opinion. The basic OME lift will get you about 1.75-2.25". You really shouldn't need to extend any of the brake lines and such. Make sure to get new axle u-bolts. The old ones will be stretched.

The difference between a 1.5" lift and a 2" lift is like 0.5". Have you seen how big 0.5" is? :p

But, yeah, call up Wheeler's and tell them what you want.

Nope I was at ABQ Tire & Mesa CB in the AM, and I was in the garage cutting and welding metal all afternoon.

You guys were planning the CB tuning for tonight, right?

    Nick,

We met last week for the CB tuning. However, meeting up on the 11th to do Moab shake down. I can help you tune it then if you can make it.
