I took a scotch-brite pad and some straight 100% ammonia and scuffed the piss out of my aluminum box then rinsed it THOROUGHLY and let it dry, then coat it liberally with self-etching primer. Then used Rustoleum spray-on bedliner and it turned out BADASS. no chips, no signs of wear or anything. This method works trust me.

As for the Chrome bumper... if it is Chrome on steel, sand the hell out of it, use an angle grinder with a sanding pad gently if you have to. The whole purpose of chroming something is to harden and polish the exterior surface to prevent stuff from sticking to it, you have to penetrate this hardened polished barrier to get primer to adhere. If it's chrome on plastic, use an electric hand sander like the ones they use for carpentry but be careful and go slow, once you break through the chrome the plastic comes off like butter.

Use a decal eraser wheel to remove your stickers off the tailgate. Should be able to find one at your local parts store or local auto paint supplier. Will work MUCH better than trying to use adhesive remover and won't damage your paint unless youhold it in one place for too long.

Anytime your working with aluminum scuff the surface and apply a self etching primer first. Without the primer nothing will stick too good, even bed liner.

I started on the toolbox today. Sanded it down but didn't use self etching primer. I used that stuff on my wheels and they still chipped down to the bare aluminum in places so I figured I'd go to town without any. Worst case I have to recoat it sooner. I'm not worried about it. I'll do my rear bumper on my next day off.

Never knew about these! I might take my trim off the rockers now

I resemble that remark! I went through the decal and paint on my rear fender flare ;) Will have to try it again...if only to remove the pin stripes.

I'm sure they would. I think I'll keep them instead. I couldn't believe they stayed on craigslist as long as they did without someone else buying them. As soon as I read the post I called the guy and asked where he wanted to meet.

Nice, I got 20mpg last Friday. Definitely think the summer mixture has to do with it. Got 15-17 in the winter. With my personal worst towing a boat and gear for an overnight....12. :(
