yeah, I have a good exhaust that I really like, but the shorty headers are proven to give a good gain in the low to md range. thats why I chose them. But right now I just want to give DT a ear full and hope they do something about it.

I will most likely just end up putting a bung in where theres sappose to be one and call it good. Maybe my local exhaust shop can do this for a cheap price.

They are tuned to enhance the scavenging effect. That's why they are different lengths.

That's something new I never heard before. From the picture, it appears that lack of available space is what made unequal runner lengths necessary. In the design of this header, LCE took great pains to insure that all the runners were exactly the same length so as to enhance the scavenging effect, whereas the stock header has unequal runners as a matter of practical economics.

Equal length doesn't always mean properly tuned. It depends on the firing order of the cylinders. The Shorty headers have shown gains all through the RPM range on the 4.0 engine. Different engines should have different designed headers. The picture you are showing, is for a V8 engine. Im pretty sure that engine is much different than the 4.0 in the Tacoma.

Well all is back to stock and my welds look really good and clean. I need to get thise bung's on and then retry the install maybe next weekend.
Im soo glad i descided not to hack up the headers to try and make the old bungy's work.

Hmmm....you could be right. Still, different states of tune regarding headers.

I hope URD gets back to my email tomorrow about my headers.. I really would like to know if all there DT 2012 shorty headers dont have the bung for the o2. Its soo stupid that its not there.
Does anyone know if its pretty cheap to have a exhaust shop do it?
I could do it but would rather have them do it if its not too much.

You're right, it's the length of the runners that determines what rpm range gets favored the most.

While it is different than the 4.0 Tacoma, it isn't a V8. That picture is actually the equal length 4 cylinder header I installed on my 2.7.

And it was next to the stock Tacoma unequal length header I took off.

Just alittle update for you all.... I heard back from Dough Thorley today and the reason they gave me why there was no o2 bungs was that since the 2012-13 headers are a redesign, they werent sure if toyota moved the location of the sensors. And they said they ship the Bungs loose with the headers. But I didnt get any.. If I had gotten them, then I wouldnt be in this mess..

So It kinda makes sense to me but they still shouldve just found out if the sensors are in the same location and put them in the headers.. simple answer to even more of a headache.. (I think)

So today I got my bungs and just got done welding them in.. All is good now, and am ready for Install... "Knock on wood" :) Pics to come this weekend when their in.

glad u got it figured out.

I couldnt find my "plugs" for the 2nd gen longtubes...I called DT, and they confirmed a few batches of longtubes were missing the bags with plugs and bolts, and that they sent Gadget a few to keep on hand......

I know I am talking about longtubes, but it seems as tho DT has forgotten parts before and the rep wasnt surprised at all.

Finally got it done today around 1pm.. Had a buddy to help me with the driver side.. Im soo glad im dont and there's no leaks.. :)
Im never doing these headers again!! DT screwed up big time when making these headers for the 2012.. the end that welds onto the cat is at the wrong angle and doesnt lineup.. I had to patch one side bc I had a huge gap.. :(
I had to kinda force the cat pip into place in order to weld ip up. I hope theres not too much strain on the headers. Because were the pipe rested in its neutral spot, was about 3/4" off alignment with the headers.. The passenger side was fine, not the drivers.
Im sure it will be just fine. "Knock on wood"

I will try to get some pics up today or tomorrow.

Im back with pics and an update of these headers.. after install we took the truck for a drive and didnt feel much of an improvement but after about 20-30 miles of driving around it got better and better.. The ECU was re-booted so I think it was that relearning everything and now that I got some miles on the headers, I do feel a little more pep in the low to mid range which is great for all the hills around where I live.

Im still super pissed about the fitment quality of these headers. They plain sucked ass to install! On the drivers side especially.
Does anyone know if having pressure or force on the pipes/flanges is bad and will cause damage? bc I had to force the y-pipe up and over to line up with the headers. and wondered if that pressure on the pipe will cause welds to crack over time.. I hope it will be fine.. Its not a ton of force, but just a little. I geuss time will tell.:)

Well off to the pics! My welds arent perty bc I wasnt worried about looks just that I had good welds that are strong and will hold and not leak. :)

Oh! and they give you bolts to use when installing, But you cant use them on the uppers bc the EGR tube is in the way, I had to use the studs and nuts for the top 3.

Its like they didnt test these headers on a 2012 or something, they just built them and said oh well. The only good thing about the headers are the build quality and the flange holes all line up. luckily

    2 out of 3 ain't bad. ;) Lol.

The good things is that you were able to overcome the problems.

I can clearly see the gap that you had to fill in. The real test now, will be how wll it holds up over time.

Yeah i hope it holds up. The gap on that side of the pipe isnt bad at all. The other side had a huge gap.
