Again, sorry to hear about the problem. I know it ruins the excitement of getting it, been there many times myself! Just think thought, in a few days, you'll be fine and have your new unit kickin'! Can you take your stuff somewhere else and have them install it?

Hey boxxed, I still have my 2 fronts (6X9 with the plastic mounting brackets). I'll send them to you for way less than 145. Let me know. They were only in the truck for a couple of days.

No still waiting. What a big pain in the ass. The place where I pre-ordered it from is in the process of becoming an authorized dealer. So he cant ordered it till he is a dealer. I talked with the Kenwood rep and he confirmed that it takes a little while. Rep said he would try to order for me. I should no more this week.

    Ill keep you posted...

    Thanks..

Nice write up and congrats on the new HU.

I have a question about the locations for the voice
control and for the microphone. How are they
    working out for you?

Any tips that you would like to share about your
install, any issues you ran into?

Thanks and some rep for you.:)

    Thanks for the rep! ;)

The microphone location is working out well. Everyone seems to hear me just fine without any echo.

The voice control switch location isn't the best, I will probably move it to the center console somewhere or on the floor so it can be foot activated.

As far as install tips, the 9140 has a ton of wires (5.1 pre-outs, sub pre-outs etc.) Take your time and tuck those in, as there isn't a whole lot of room beind the new HU.

Here's the splash screen I now use instead of the drab blue Kenwood one.

Appreciate the advice, looking to start my upgrade in
    the coming week. :D

Have fun playing around with your head-unit. I like the new
wall. Hopefully I won't run into any snags.

Ask visa or my wife. They both constantly remind me how much I've got left to spend.
Hdrew, I'm looking at the DNX5140 and wanted to know what you thought about it. It's more in my price range since I'm saving money for other mods but want a solid system.

It's another great unit from Kenwood. If you don't plan on using bluetooth or super high end audio, it will do great. If you plan on using bluetooth or adding it in the future, go to the 6140. (Usually 200.00 or so difference.)

The 7140 is another great unit that features the bigger screen as well as the built-in bluetooth.

It all depends on what you plan to get out of your system and so forth.

Thanks for the info, I'm wanting to upgrade since the 09 radio/cd is a POS but I'm not needing anything industrial strength like your. I'll probably have invested as much in my whole system as you have in your head unit.

If you drop the wire down the vent on the dash in the center, it comes out behind the radio. No drilling, no fuss. You may have to pry a little under the dash with a small screwdriver to make enough room for the connector to come through, but only took about 3 minutes to run it total.

    Hope that helps!

I think you'll be suprised how much better your stock speakers will sound with the 5140. It'll be so much cleaner as well as more range.:headbang:
