13 Condensation on windsheild

So last night when I was washing my truck I noticed this....



I've seen it before but never thought much of it but I'm starting to think I have a problem. There was no reason for this to be on the windsheild in my opinion last night. I didn't use heat or AC yesterday at all just turned the vents on to let air pass thru. My truck sat in the driveway about 1.5 hrs before I started washing it and it was probably 70 degrees outside so it wasnt' a humidity type of thing. Other times I had noticed it was on cold mornings there would be water dropping off the inside of the windsheild and when it rained I've noticed it before but not every time.

Anybody else had this problem if so is it something I'm doing or is it a warranty issue? My truck has about 6000 miles on it.

 

if i remember correctly, if you have it on defrost/feet or defrost, the a/c will still kick in even if the a/c light doesnt come on.

 

It wasn't on defrost, it was turned to the face position only.

 

in that pic, is the water on the inside out outside of the glass?

 

Looks like you might have a leak somewhere.

 

Its on the inside.

 

Its possible the vent intake duct just under the windshield wiper cowl may have had a leak, and the differential in temp in/out plus may have been enough for this to happen.

how did you get rid of the condy spot? Defrost or with a towel?

 

Is that something that can be fixed easily? It came up when I was washing the truck so I was going to wipe it off after I backed it under the carport but I got distracted so It went away on its on by the time I got ready to leave for work this morning.

 

This happened to me several times this past winter. I have a 2013 DCSB as well with less 6000 miles, and every time we got more than a few inches of snow, I would have condensation on the inside of my windshield.

 

its normal for it to be a "loose seal", you wont get any water down the vent intake, its a well under that seal and intake is a raised tube, like a reservoir for water and debris to settle.

 

So its normal to have condensation on the inside of the window like that? I don't think it should be if it is. I have literally had drops of water coming off the inside of the window when it was cold outside and I cut the defrost on.

 

Have you asked the dealer about it or do you consider it normal?

 

I haven't asked the dealer about it, I always chalked it up to snow being over the inlet vent so when the pressure changed the air that was being sucked in was very moist. I never checked, but I figured that if I remembered to switch the selector off of defrost and pressed the recirculate air button that it would close off these vents solve the problem. I would be curious to see if that would fix it if you want to give it a test. It never bothered me too much, as my defrost would solve the problem for me in a matter of minutes (I would make sure to clear the snow off the inlet vent before doing so, but like I said I've never tested whether or not this was the actual cause).

I guess I'll pay more attention to the air selection when I cut the truck off for now on and see what happens.

 

Delta T and varying levels of humidity are what causes condensation. That spot on the windshield is the spot where the defrost was focused (at least enough temperature differential to form condensation.) Either turn your defrost a little toward the red (warmer dry air) or leave your windows cracked...a little air circulation will all dry things up.

 

I'm quite sure that if the OP has "drops" of water inside its a bit more then just simple vapor pressure differential, that's a leak, if in fact you have "drops" on the inside that isn't fogging so to speak.

I agree if you're concerned enough to just take it to the dealership, however I don't think this is an accurate statement. Once there is enough build up of condensation, the force of gravity will overcome the inter-molecular force between the water and the windshield that keeps the layer of water thin and "fog-like," the condensation will run down the window and create droplets on the inside of your wind shield.

I think if there were a leak that was found during a power-washing, the droplets would be on the dash and steering wheel, not stuck to the inside of the windshield.

Just one man's opinion though.

I think it was an issue of having left the switch in the defrost position when parked. I have been switching the blower to off and to the facr position prior to parking since then and have washed the truck several more times and haven't noticied the issue again. Seems strange that i've never had a vehicle do that before and this one does but whatever at least I think I know what my problem was now.

 

My HVAC controls are always on defrost/feet and right in the middle usually at night, and I never get condensation, maybe in the winter a bit but usually I just crank the heat to get it off and go on my way.
