Anyone with an I4 DC Prerunner and a hard shell? Want to get one, but wondering if the weight bogs it down too much. I'm thinking they weigh around 300#'s or something? I am happy with the I4 and does fine even with wife 2 kids and dog inside, but wondering if anyone has noted change in performance or mileage to a noticeable degree. Thanks.

How are you guys sealing up your toppers?
When mine was installed it they used 1/4" foam and a tailgate seal.
But still leaks in dust pretty bad and water when i wash it.

When I got my shell I asked a lot of questions about how the seal between the shell and the bed rails. My questions were answered with two different methods.

    1. Cap tape
    2. Double Bulb Seal

If you remove your shell periodically, bulb seal is the way to go. It also forms a very good seal. Cap tape is fine if you never take the shell off.

Here are some pics of bulb seal

I specified bulb seal when they installed my shell and they used a 1 gallon can of yellow adhesive shit and a paint brush to apply the adhesive to the shell and then the bulb seal. My shell doesn't leak water and I'm happy with it.

I bought one of those "lund tailgate seal" items from Amazon and it seems to work very good.

Dust intrusion is difficult to defend against if your off-road a lot. It's basically a loosing battle. You can plug the big holes but inevitably it will get in.

Here is my "new-to-me" ARE cap. Cap is all scratched up but I couldn't beat the price. Was thinking of painting it, but I like the Impulse Red with black cap look. It will look a lot better when I finally get around to painting the wheels black.

Now just waiting on a set of RockyMounts bike racks to come in.

There's all kinds of dust intrusion. Most from around the tailgate, the bed cubbies and bed boxes. A pet peeve of mine, so I sealed all the cubbies and bed boxes with adhesive-backed foam house weatherstrip, sealed the tailgate with the same. I do hate dust in my bed and on my gear. All the dust comes in from the rear tires basically, shut off all access from them and you'll be happy.

I went with the longest one from Yakima. I carry a kayak plus my two mtn bikes. Still gives me plenty of room to add more toys

If centered correctly, they are "flush" with the width of the truck.

I have 58" yakima's and I think they are a perfect length. They don't stick too far. I keep 2 road bikes up there and there is easily 4' between them. Plenty of room for a boat or cargo basket.

    x2 Yeah I second that.

I used some gorilla tape in and on the sides of the bed cubbies and that took care of them. I used a bead of silicon in the gap (corners of the bed) where the factory D rings are. Some Lund tailgate seal took care of the tailgate area. I still have to do a little bit of work where the shell rear door and tailgate meet.

^ Love the look of the truck. Nice vented windoors! I tried so hard to get them but I could not. :)

The 58" sound right. Pictured below is snorola's truck. I believe his are 58"

I got the shorter ones from the A.R.E factory that are 48"
