Bill, I hate to hear of your lose. At least she is not suffering and has moved on to a better place. Embrass your family and remember the joy.

Dave, I am going to be closed except for Wed and Thurs this week. We will get to your timing belt very soon. I still have to get my replacement crankshaft from you so I can get my truck on the road before the rodeo. Thanks again all.

No rush man, you have more important things to deal with at the moment. The crankshaft is sitting in my back seat collecting dust and some surface rust. Doing my best to keep it oiled so the rust won't take over.

Everything will still be here when you're ready.

100k on the motor 330k on body, and drivetrain. 2600 is the price. Idk what the inside looks like. I talked to the guy and he said I can come look at it this weekend. So that's what I'll be doing Saturday!

What about this one? I can repair it and add armor to it and still not have that much into it. What do y'all think?

Maybe. What does he want for it? He says the frame is straight...

If you were hunting for a pure rock toy, it looks like a good start to me, but if it were a daily, I'd go with the white one.

Also, something I should have done on the miata - check tread depths at multiple locations on all the tires if you plan to do on-road driving - I got really nervous that I had a bent frame (well, unbody, whatever) at one point because I noticed after awhile the tires weren't wearing straight. Ended up just being alignment and overinflation, but it's better to find out sooner than later.

Which will not help you at all whatsoever for that wreck, it's not been driven enough for tire wear to indicate whether there's an alignment issue. Definitely get that badboy frame checked out - hell, preferably align it - before buying it if you go with the beater.

The only reason I'd do the beater is if he gives you a wicked deal, it better be like $1000 tops.

truthfully, you have a family that is in need of a second fully functional vehicle (at least according to your wife). you dont need another money pit/ fixer upper. you should look into one that runs and is reliable, and can get you down the road with your family SAFELY and reliably. not something you can drop off on a trailer and just barely make it back out of the woods. not trying to tell you your business just repeated what you and your wife have both told me. just rem you dont necessarily HAVE to have one today. if need be hold off and save money till you can get what works not what needs work.

but that is just my .02 and i believe you should have a dd before you get a trail rig.

$700 for the wrecked one... Roughly 150k miles on it also
I will definitely be buying one as a DD before anything. I plan on using it the same way you use yours. DD during the week and the occasional weekend trail ride

then i would recommend the one that is up and running not any that "needs a little work" or just needs a timing belt. my advice would be, if you can take it on a test drive dont give it a second look.

Man, I'd get the nicer one. $1900 more to get one that runs and drives? What's your time worth, plus you need a new fan, new radiator, maybe new lines for the radiator, new headlight and turn signal assemblies, new hood... And that's assuming you go plate bumper, which I imagine you would. That's gonna add up pretty quick man, not to mention whatever else is missing that he hasn't mentioned, plus getting the brakes working.

Even if you pick-a-part that stuff, it's gonna add up really quick. Your hood will be what, at least 200 + getting it painted unless you want it to look really neckish :D Or get the nicer one and drive it now, save your pennies, and start modding it later.

True. Didn't think about that. I would be pushing the 1900 if not more plus getting it down here. I dont really have a time frame on purchasing one. I know this time next year, I will NEED one. Right now I am sorta looking but not really. Just happened to find that one on Facebook lastnight. I figured I can get it for 2k, lift, armor, and maybe tires. :notsure:

The white one didn't look bad, particularly for an older gen, they're usually astronomical. I'd be curious who put in the "new" engine though.
