Propjet got the right thread, well the right thread has the wrong name.

It is not "axle wrap" coming to a stop, it is probably binding on the rear driveshaft spline. Common complaint on DC 4x4's. Search around the boards, it is well-documented. Some boards feature one-piece driveshaft group buys to fix it. It is a permanently sealed spline, but some users cut through the boots and lube it.

does it on my 05 pre runner access cab 2WD. I thought it was axle wrap, but I got the deaver 10 leaf pack and it's still there . The deavers did fix a different 'axle wrap' feeling my non TSB leafs had but I get the clunk after taking off from a hard stop. Im waiting for front ss lines, rotors n pads, we'll see what happens after that.. It does feel like a drive shaft clunk tho..also going to change my u joints, they don't have zerks on the 2WD ones so it couldnt hurt @>$20 each.

Taco, you obviously have done your homework on this topic, if memory serves correctly from the other thread. I haven't had the time to go back to the dealer so they can pretend that it doesn't exist, which leads me to a question. If left untreated, does this binding of the driveshaft have any long term implications? Is it causing any damage, or is it just annoying and embarrassing?

No expert, but it was ALL over here, TN and TTORA about the time I bought my truck (2007). I haven't read about anything bad actually happening, nor have I ever experienced it. The guys motivated enough to post tend to fix things.

It goes on a long list of complaints with lifted trucks. Solid driveshafts eliminated the spline AND pillow block, seemed popular with the offroad crowd.

Again, no expert just a fast reader. There are a bunch of rear end squawks, but that one is probably the most common on DC 4WD's. The pitiful springs on these things do wrap-up, but that's another scenario (also very well documented). This board is unique in that the two seem to get mixed-up.

2WD doesn't have a spline on the shaft, at least on my DCLB.

My 09 does this from time to time. I figured out what it is from. I have the Reg Cab 4x4. When my gas tank is 3/4 full or less I hear the clunk. If I push on the truck from the back I heard that same cluck as the gas sloshes around and hits the back and front of the tank. The tank is shaped like a rectangle.

This may be what you are hearing, but then again it may not. :D

yeah i dunno.. it feels like it's physically releasing pressure (or a bind).
LIke I mentioned earlier I will be replacing the front brakes this week, so if it is a brake noise it will be taken care of.

Forgive me for resurrecting a 2 year old thread, but this is exactly what I am experiencing also. It only clunks in the warm weather. Not a single clunk all winter long.

I assume this is because the axle greese is thicker in the cold. Is there any remedy to this yet?

I have a 2006 ex cab trd sport

I'm glad I'm not going insane!! Thanks for the long thread of posts on this subject. My ride is a 2010 DC TRD Sport Longbed. Just got it in April with 38K miles and it started the clunk in this summer and I thought I might have bought something that was not driven correctly and the tranny was about to be left behind on the road someday.

I'm experiencing the same issue. I thought it was axle wrap... but maybe not. I think I might look into some more.

My clunk isn't consistent though. I happens about 75% of the time...
