I've looked around the site and haven't found the answer to myquestion. If it has been answered, cansomeone please point me in the right direction?

2013 TRD Off Road’s come with a locking rear differential but only shortbeds. TRD Sports don’t come with alocking rear diff but can come with a long bed.

In my perfect world I would have a long bed with a diff lock. I know for hard core off roading, short bedsare better but I’m not a hard core off roader. I like having a longer bed to haul more crap around but would also likea diff lock for those couple times a year when it snows or I get off in alittle mud just to have more peace of mind that I'm less likely to get stuck.

Has anyone installed a locking rear diff on a 2012 or 2013 TRD Sport? I’ve looked around the web and it seems likeaftermarket lockers are only available up to 2004 Tacomas. Does anyone know if it’s possible?

If it’s not possible, I guess I will have to start a pros and cons list oflong bed vs. diff lock.

You can get an ARB for the Sport. However LSD does fine in the snow.

if you are not a hardcore offroader you dont really need the locker. dont konw why you want it for snow unless you mean offroading in the snow

FIND someone with an offroad that wants LSD and do a rear axle swap. But after market locker would prolly be easier and cheaper. By the way, locker and snow on the road = bad I'm pretty sure.

Right... only the double cab Off road has a 5 ft. bed. The Access cab and Standard Cab both have the 6 ft. bed.

If you want a double cab, and a locker (and A-TRAC on the 4WDs), then the 5 ft. bed is your only choice... and only in the USA.

The Sport or SR5, etc. (as well as the Off Roads) have TRAC and the stronger 'AUTO LSD', in H2 and H4, so you do have some limited slip action if one of the rear tires spins in 2WD, or one in the front and one in the rear spins in 4WD.

The non-Off Road 4WD Tacomas can do the 4 Lo Trac Mod to have limited slip in low range... The Off Road 4WDs have A-TRAC available in low range... which is like 'automatic lockers' on the front and rear.

Since 2009, ALL Tacomas have an open differential and use TRAC for traction control (uses brakes) and no more mechanical limited slip in the rear diff., which was only on 2005-2008 Sport Tacomas

Thanks for the responses. I'm not a big off roader but I ama hunter, outdoorsman, etc... I've been stuck several times with other non-lockdiff 4wheel drive trucks in just a little bit of mud or snow covered ground andI'm pretty sure a locking rear diff would have got me out. So again, I justwant it for those few times a year. I hate it when I have to rely on someoneelse to pull me out. And I forgot tomention I have to have a quad cab. Sosounds like the easiest thing will be to get an Off Road with diff lock andjust buy a trailer for times when I have extra crap to haul.

you actually have better traction in 4 high, unless you do yellow wire mod for 4 low.
