Sluggo: The 4 banger build

From what I understand, the diff drop helps with 1st gens but doesn't do crap for 2nd gens.

Might have a difficult time fitting some aftermarket skid plates though.

And ya, that is what I have heard as well, that diff drops are pretty much useless for 2nd gens. Also that the earlier tacomas handle lifts and tires better than later first gens. At least that's what monte mike and I have determined. And I don't plan on adding aftermarket skid plates realistically. Got a hundred other things I would rather spend my mine on

wait so you mean your boot tear basically sealed itself up? that's impressive!


and so far holding up fine! No extra tearing that I can see. Will be going out to the desert on saturday to ride dirtbikes and braaap with my buddy as we try out his new baja bug so we shall see what happens to it then.

is this now sort of a race? who ever's boot blows first buys the other a beer or something.

I have officially spent money, so project mini rock crawler has begun. I got a non damaged locking third out of a bent rear axle and the full wiring harnesses front to back. Next step is buying an 8" housing for my third and abs axle shaft and im getting 4.56 R and P to match up with the front. Im going to re gear the third, swap over brake lines onto the axle housing im going to get, swap in the abs axle shafts into my hubs. Button it all back together, throw it under the truck, and the plan is to have it all done by moab!




E locker third. Appears to be all good. No shavings in the housing, side gears spin at different directions, splines are all good, locker axtuator is nice and tight.

Next "big" hurdle is going to be figuring out wiring. Have to figure out how to get the 4 wires out of the diff RR switch to the connect to the correct wires in the jumble of wires coming out of that white harness to the left, and run power to the locker. Pretty sure the locker has 6 wires...and the switch has 4 coming out of it. So i have to pour over diagrams till I understand it haha.





The only damage we could fine anywhere on the third. A little bit of scouring from the splines. They are only in this one spot though.

of course andy comes in bringing debbie downer news...said if the carrier bearing things got tweaked even a thousnadths of an inch the bearing will wear prematurely and ill still be fucked. guess i need to get that checked. please dont screw this project by a thousandths of an third member, ok?

lol im surprised it turned out as well as it did. still need to get some sound deadener for it










Got the wiring harness and my factory switch almost done, just have to tap in and run power to it and finish off wiring the switch light, then the locker will work. Then I have to cover the harness with the plastic cover and secure it to the factory and run it back to the rear end.





Also my rear u joint is squeaking like a mother fucker, i dont want to drive it lol. Have to get it greased like tomorrow.

Buy a new u joint. Cheap and easy to do. I'm sure Konsta can do it.

If it's that bad now. Want help and you'll risk blowing it or tweaking the drive shaft up pretty bad too.

It's only 30 bucks.
