if your rig is still tagged in nc, colorado CANNOT give you a ticket even if youre too dark for here, or even if youre illegal in your homestate because you are considered a visitor.

And mine was illegal in ca but is illegller here, and nobodys messed with me ever, got here may of last year, trucks been registered in co since oct of last year

i have a friend who lives in nevada, got a ticket in ca for illegal front tint, went to court to fight it. The judge looked at the cop and i quote "all right this is the first out of state tint ticket of the day, who else is registered out of state and here for this?" 5 people raised their hands. Judge then looked at the cop and said " if you keep wasting my time with this tint nonsense on the out of staters ill throw every ticket you write out just because im sick of you" Then turned and went "all out of state tickets dismissed, go to the clerk if you are here for that"

to give you reference, tinted 20% percent sides, my sunstrip is 6" instead of the legal 4" or so, and the back is 4" OVER the factory tint. And a guy i work with is rolling limo on everything but the windshield and has been for a year, never bothered. Just dont tint your rig super dark if you live in aurora cause i hear they will mess with you for it. I do emissions testing and theres cars i have to lean out the window to see the screen on how fast i gotta go cause i cant see cause they tinted the ENTIRE windshield and i guess they aint got pulled over for it either

Try running a red light in front of a state trooper with that tint, you'll get messed with.

Tint is a secondary offense, and not something that you can pulled over for as primary. Unless the cop has a tint meter in his car, (state troopers) they most often won't mention the tint.

Dark tint and tinted windshields piss me off, when I can't see in your car, it makes me antsy.

yeah i wont tint the windshield cause im sure theres a chance ill hit someone and get dinged on that cause theyll say i couldnt see cause im a dumbass, but with 20 on the side you can see me inside unless its snowing or something, and i know you guys deal with a lot of jackasses so anytime i get rolled, windows down immediately and i do it as im pulling over so yall can be easy and not think im moving around in the car (they are hand crank)

and i dont run red lights unless i been sitting there a while and the shit wont change and they are all red

Behind the driver can be dark as shit, but if you do the front, it has to be a certain percentage all around, none of this dark as fuck shit. And I see people who are rolling dark as fuck tint, and I know its over the limit, but I can't do anything about it cuz without a tint meter, I can't write the ticket...but if I was issued a tint meter, I'd write that shit all day.

in new mexico, 20% sides, 5% backs is legal if i remember right, so I kind of have a hard time if their law enforcement doesnt have a problem with dark tint IN A BORDER STATE, yet other people in law enforcment use this excuse for not wanting people to have dark windows.

ca you can do whatever you want to the back but no fronts, so they dont have the tint meters

Each state is different, I think for the most part across the board, cops hate dark tint cuz they can't see in the car, state law or not.

Cops don't make state law, society does, and society wants dark tint, just look around.

yall got guns and shit, if i was a cop id just unholster it when i was coming up to a car and i was nervous due to tint.

plus theres the big ass spotlights on each side of your rigs too, even limo tint you should be able to tell whats going on if you pull someone over and its nighttime.

why do you get antsy if someone isnt acting dangerous or being a jackass behind the wheel, just because of their tints? not trying to be a smartass, just wondering.

If its a fucked up car, in a fucked up neighborhood with high crime, yea the gun will most likely come out, but not on every stop with dark tint.

Cuz I don't know them from Adam. They could be rolling around with a group of assholes in the back seat, ready to fire...you never know.

Traffic stops always raise my awareness and my heart rate lol

You watch that vid of that dude that shot at the cops in Ohio? Was he acting dangerous? Being a jackass behind the wheel? The MOFO pulled over and just watched....until they got out, then it was hell.

Do a ride along once and ask (even though you'll be denied) to approach an unknown driver/vehicle at night and see how you feel. Now add in the fact that you can't see anyone in the car or what they're doing as you approach.

well if you ever start patrolling littleton just keep your cool. More often than not the rigs here with dark ass tint are old people who already have skin cancer.

I have to keep cool even with my gun drawn. Just approach with a heightened sense of awareness, because until I make contact, I have not a clue who that driver is.

cause of my job, when i work at the denver station the shit with dark ass tint usually are the "gangsta" type. But when im at golden or ken caryl they get out the cars and its usually some regular guy thats 50+ y.o and then if i turn up the radio (only on cars with steering wheel controls cause were not supposed to but the camera cant tell if we do it on those) its playing npr.

Yeah true, good point. But it seems like as a cop who does it many times a day (I could be wrong), you would have developed a good sense of "if the situation was sketchy and could be dangerous or not" sorta thing. I think its different if your armed and trained to use a gun too.

Dude, every thing we do on a daily basis is different. We cannot, CANNOT get complacent, or we die, or your family dies, or my partner dies.

That's why I hate the term "routine" traffic stop....each stop is an unknown risk stop.

fair enough. just seems like as a cop there would be a strong developed sense of whats a fucked up situation and whats not regardless of %tint on the vehicle.
