I recently bought my first Tacoma and loving every minute of it. However I keep hearing about how I should put the TRD exhaust system on to give it a more deep sound and improve the horse power. Im curious what you all think and give any tips to the new guy.

    Welcome from SoCal.

I have a 09 DCSB with the TRD exhaust. I love the way it sounds, can't say I noticed any power gains though. I also have the TRD CAI which makes the truck sound different too.

Everyone has their own tastes. It's not real loud but it gives it a nice sound. Some poeple like a louder exhaust some like it stock. Just don't expect a whole lot of power gains no matter which exhaust system you choose.

Rode in a truck with the trd catback........very mild.
If ur doing it for a deep sound, id look elsewhere.........ymmv tho.

Have a shop temp clamp diff mufflers on ur existing pipes.....ask them NOT to tell u what muffler brand is going on each time......use soley ur ears.....ask them if u can blip the gas some.....that way they are ready for it and u don't piss em off

When u find a sound u like, ask them what it is if u want......then have it welded on to ur stock pipes.

I bought a magnaflow mufffler for about $50 and had a local shop install it for $60. Very happy with the sound, louder and deeper than stock but not so much that it's annoying to me inside the cab and to others outside. Price is right too.

I have one and would say that it's worth it. If you're looking for an exhaust that isn't too loud. Don't get me wrong, you can definitely hear the difference, but it's not one of those super loud exhaust systems.

As other's have said, don't expect a bunch of power from it.

I got the Magnaflow cat back system. I think it sounds a bit deeper than the TRD and it was about the same price. No noticeable change in power, noticed a change in fuel economy though, because i like to hear the exhaust leaving each stop.
The TRD oval exhaust tip looks kinda cool though.

It's worth it if you like the sound. Different exhausts will sound different or be louder. The TRD will be the quietest option. Mine sounded decent although I always wish it would have been a little louder.

Who do you keep hearing this from? If it's someone that has a TRD exhaust, listen to the exhaust. If not........

just dont do it for the "TRD" stamp............remember, they dont make the exhaust, supercharger, shocks, intakes, air filters, etc.

hell I dont know if they manufacture a single item........so dont get caught up in the hype.

    buy whatever pleases your ears.

I think it's worth it to alter your exhaust from stock no matter what brand you use. There is a thread oh here that has all different options and even some videos.I've owned four Tacoma's and the cat back on my Baja gives the truck a whole new personality.

I have the trd exhaust, sounds good to me. No drone, but when I get on it it's noticeable.

I've had mine on since truck was a few months old. Still like it, and don't regret it. Plus looks better than the stock IMO.

Yes. I got my TRD exhaust installed a week after I got my truck and it was like falling in love again...except with her hotter, more aggressive younger sister (I call her Lana).

I can't imagine the truck without the TRD exhaust. The stock system is not very "vocal".

I was behind a Tacoma yesterday in our Sonata, and it had a magnaflow sticker on the back glass. The guy got on it off the light and it sounded hollow and gross; reminded me of the guys who put dual pipes on their V6 Mustangs. No clue what setup he had but I was embarrassed for him. I hope others with magnaflows sound much better than that, for the sake of their owners.

I drove a truck at the dealership yesterday that had the TRD exhaust on it. I was trying to decide if I wanted it on mine. I was surprised when I decided not.

I'm usually all about 'noise' and I thought for sure I would order it, but all I could hear was drone from the rear. I couldn't hear the engine any more. I like noise as much as the next guy and it's a little bit subjective, but I didnt like the TRD exhaust one bit. I found it louder of course, but not pleasant sounding. Just loud. I think I'll be checking out the exhaust vid clips / threads and looking for an alternative.

+1 TRD Exhaust. I don't think you would go wrong but as stated, kind of depends on what sound you are looking for. TRD up's the grumble over stock but it's not going to be a loud pipe if that is what you are looking for. Sound gets better after a few 1K's. I like the stamped TRD exhaust tip too.
