If only one link is needed to do that, why the rest of it?

Perhaps young Mister Alex can learn from my mistake. Then again I haven't been able to talk you out of it yet hahahaha

Just bought a bike! I rode a friend's Yamaha TW200 all last season and loved it, so I decided I needed something for myself. '82 Suzuki GS550T, 8k miles. Got it for $200! Supposedly it runs awesome, but has sat for a little over a year.

This is my first bike, so any tips? I know a lot of you guys ride. I've been having trouble getting it to shift, but I also haven't moved it from the PO's spot yet. Sorry for the shitty cell phone pic. I'll get a better one once I get it home.

Yikes, that thing is likely going to take some work to get running right! I would invest in a Haynes manual or equivilent. Check the inside of the gas tank, make sure it's not rusted to hell. You will likely have to clean and re-sync the carbs (if there's 4 of them, it can be a PITA and requires a special tool to do so). Change out all the fluids before riding. Inspect all the wiring and lines, at that age, some of them get brittle and can crack causing a short or a fuel leak.

Fucking truck isn't getting done till next week now. On a good note what I pulled apart is now back together. And running. Positive note I'm exploring some class 6 roads in RI.

Upon exiting one trail there was a block at the exit I nearly shit my self what was coming at me, as the trails are legal. There's trails dump into Big River. A HMVW coming straight at me

There is a sand recovery going on at the big river sand area. After shooting the shit with the guardsman that was coming at me he invited me to come watch. I'm learning stuff. Can't take many pics. They have Hummers, 6 tons, 3 M1A1's and some wheeled tanks and personal jeeps.

Sweet, thanks for the tips! I had a pretty good idea it'd need some work, but it's got new tires, new brakes... I bought it from my fiance's father, so at least I trust the guy. Supposedly it was run every day in the summer up until he broke his ankle and couldn't shift.

I'll be doing all the standard procedures before I take it out; Changing fluids, draining the tank, replacing spark plugs, cleaning the carb (carbs?). Brake/gas lines look good, but you're right on with some of the electrical wires, they're pretty brittle.

But for the price, why not?

A slew of pricey stuff my wife hates me for.
That's the towed artillery (M-777) Battery of the 197th from RI. We had to "adopt" them into my unit last deployment. Fucking boneheads.

And the newest armored humvees are giant pieces of shit, but at least they have A/C.

For the price, I'd jump on it also! That's good that you at least know and trust the previous owner. At the very least, he can tell you any quirks the bike may have (and trust me, pretty much all old bikes have at least one or two, even my 2002 has a couple). That's also good that it's been running recently, might mean it'll run without tearing the carbs apart and cleaning them. I got the impression that it has been sitting for a while because of the low mileage. Good luck with it, those old bikes are hard to kill!

Thanks! Yeah, it's been on the road in the past year and a half, so it shouldn't be too much of a bitch to get going.

Is there a point to all of those bolts? They don't appear to be doing anything that the lugs aren't already doing.
